I went via New Zealand, then Tonga then Vava'u... yes quite a nightmare trip. you can also go via sydney so check out your choices...

I got quite close at time but you have to swim really hard... and i mean really hard for a long time... they are afterall shy and wild so will move awy most of the time. but there will be times when you get lucky...

10. all my pics are not cropped. to answer how close i was, the below pic is taken with the nikon 14-24 (using Nikon D3) @ 14mm. so thats how close I was
