Hi,

Been trying to cook tom yam soup at home - tried a few
diff brands of those ready made tom yam paste but taste still
not that good.

Anyone can help to reco some ready-made tom yam paste ?

THANKS !

Cannot remember off-hand the brand of the paste that i frequently used... But for the best results, i usually add additional spices like 1)lemon grass, 2) curry leaf, 3) juice from squeezed lime: those big ones, 4) fish sauce...

Then aroy mak! :)

Remember already... its Dancing Chef, green packaging. Available at leading supermarkets and convenience stores ;). Or you can buy it by the tub @ Tekka Market, Thai Section if you REALLY like Tom Yam.

Try KNORR Tom Yam cubes. IMO

I find that with coconut milk in the tom yum taste better.

WOW ! Seems like I got a few options to try out.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

Anyone else ?

THANKS AGAIN !

hi

u want the original receipe for Tom Yam soup? My thai frens tell me they dun use the tom yam paste most of the time.

lemon grass ( put more and
basil leaves (not very sure abt this one but it's the leaves that they have with curry)
blue ginger
tomatoes
chilli padi (lots of it ....)
onions
fish sauce (add when soup is ready)
Thai Limes (add when the soup is ready)
Mushrooms, prawn, chicken (whatever u want to eat)

Just boil everything in a pot. I cook by "aga"ration so everything is by taste. no exact proportions. Otherwise , you can buy a pack of tom yam ingredients from the Thai Supermarket at Golden Mile Complex. Just put everything in a pot and boil.

hope i din miss out anything. have fun! :)

Thanks for the recipe ! Will try that when I have time.

Seems like 2 persons has suggested putting fish sauce.

I'm new to fish sauce - Care to elaborate more - such as which brand
to look for and how you use it ?

THANKS !

You forgot to add thai chilli paste, lady brand.
I would also add milk for taste and colouring.

The primary "tom yam" soup base must have blue ginger, lemongrass, chilli padi, thai lime (do not squeeze them dry) , chilli paste and nam pla (fish sauce) :)

mamma mia. :p

Thanks for the info !

To be frank, this is the first time I heard of fish sauce ! :embrass:

Will definitely TRY TRY TRY !
