Tokyo Japan: Where to buy cheap Olympus Cameras

Hi everyone,

I read online that Cameras are cheaper in Japan. I'll be heading over to Tokyo in Sep, so I'm very keen to get either the Olympus Stylus 1 or OM-D M-5 camera.

I understand that Olympus cameras have international warranty, and their language modes can be switch to English if required. Also I can download the English menu online. Thus I'm not that worried about buying them overseas.

Are there any shops I should visit in Tokyo for best camera prices? Or are the prices at the Airport the standard rate? Do they give freebies like Singapore?

Thanks for the advice.

Try map camera in shinjuku. Or fujiya at nakano. Both have websites where prices are published. Suggest u call the local shops to check the latest sg prices and promo freebies before heading to tokyo. Sometimes sg prices, sometimes better.

If you're looking for E-M5, I believe the prices at Qoo10.sg are MUCH more competitive than the prices in Japan.

Thank for the tips. I most likely will be getting the Stylus 1 as it suits my needs. And the price on the websites are SGD200 cheaper. Looking forward to the purchase.

Any idea if stores like MAP Camera & Yodobashi will levy a charge if payment is made using credit card? Like how shops here quote a lower cash price versus a higher pay by credit card price... Thanks!

I think answer is no. But you do get charged extra from the credit card company. So if you know that you are getting a Camera, best bring more cash. You can always check their website for official store selling price.

oh ya, forgotten to update on my trip in September.

Bought an Olympus Stylus 1 at Kitamura (http://shop.kitamura.jp/) I was and still is very happy with the purchase. It was SGD$300 cheaper then the selling price here. Although the user guide was in Japanese, no harm was done as I downloaded the English version online. The camera was in English mode too.

One sad news I got to know after I returned was Olympus stopped providing World-wide warranty after August 2014. But for the money I saved, its worth it.

If your product comes with the old International warranty card, the warranty will still be honoured.

oh!? They follow the type of warranty card I have in the box and not the purchase date on my receipt?

Can probably check with the service centre on that. The new batch of products sold in Singapore only has a card to tell you to register online for warranty.
