Well, i actually placed my flash at the angle pointing to the ceiling, i did not wanted the flash to be pointed at the model as i am afraid it will be too overpowered..well actually i am still new in photography and also the flash light aspect..

that is what I guess so, throwing the light into blackhole.

anyway, to soften the light effectively, you need to increase the size of light source close to the size of your subject, that is why we have many sizes of softbox available.
but to attach a large bounce card or large softbox, but that will be very silly and inconsiderate when you shooting such events with many photographers standing beside you.


in such situation, you can't expect too much, since you have no control of all the elements to make a good photo, eg, lighting, angle, composition, models, posing, background etc,
it can't classify as portrait, so don't be so serious about it.

no wonder. because with a speedlite mounted, your subject would have been illuminated sufficiently.

the flash is still acceptable,much better than the one with flash pointed upwards.

Hi TS, your flash seems to be over powered by 1-stop or more. As long as your highlights are not clipped, you can still recover the image by pulling highlights slide in "preview".

Are you using TTL mode or manual mode for flash? is your exposure EV set to 0 or +ve side?
In order to get the picture with correct or neutral white balance straight from camera, use manual white balance by using gray/white card. If you are using jpeg mode, always try to shoot one picture without flash to confirm the color balance before you move on.

BTW here is the comparison of image which can recover highlight by adjusting highlight slide. I think many other s/w can do this now a days.
note that if you have original jpeg or Raw image, you can recover much more than this.

Bouncing flash to soften the light on a subject is ideal in an area with high ceiling. Sharing a shot @ Spore Expo Hall during SIN 2008. Was
shooting film then so an ISO800 film was used with flash with a fill light on auto.Speed @ 1/30sec full aperture.Flash has only a GN of 28



So in this digital age application is similar ableit the availability to adjust the WB.

I am using the flash wit manual mode as it is mounted on my GX1, it does not seem able to be compatible to use the ettl..mm i think i am using the strength of the flash at -0.5 and my ev is set to neutral.

Dear all, i was actually at MBS for the auto salon and i took some pics with my GX1 with my Canon Speedlite but i found every pic i took was yellow tinted with the flash on..i tried adjusting my white balance but it did not seem to help at all..the pic on top is one example, i have others but i do not have time to upload all, please help me out here thanks~

Errr, but correct me if I'm wrong, this shot seems to me you are not using any flash at all. The background and your subject exposure seems the same. U may want to check your settings again.
