Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 User Group

Hi Bro & Sis, currently I'm using Sony A57 for some reasons I rarely went out to shoot. My skill is still very newbies, but I really like landscape photography( inspires by many bro & sis here eg: nightwalk,kit,supersimon27,daredevil,just too many names to put in :p ) and main point is should I get this lens to start my landscape photography ? And should I go for first or 2nd hand ? Need your advice :) If budget wise really have to compare the new and 2nd hand price.

You should use your kit lens until you understand the limitation of your kit lens and what you are missing. At the moment, you could go out and rent one to play around with or buy second hand 11-16mm (if you can find one), then shoot for awhile to see if you really like the wide angle.

If you find it okay and wanted to get a new one, you can sell your second hand 11-16mm at minimal or no losses at all, and get a new one :)

Other lens that you could check out is the Sigma 10-20mm (which is pretty affordable).

Thanks rhino123 for the advise, was thinking to rent one and try first. Guess if I like it will still go for a 2nd hand(much affordable).

Is the canon eos 550d able to autofocus with the tokina 11-16mm dxi?

As long your camera have a in build focus motor it will work.

Just want to check, for FF users (5D/6D/1D), will the rear of the lens contact the mirror if used on these cameras?

How much is 11-16mm tokina selling at shop now? Is there 2 different version?

What are the differences between the 2 versions.. oh n technogadgets is selling th first version at about 600+ i wonder how much would th second ver cost

Hi, it is handheld? The pic seem to be OOF and overexposed. If properly exposed, u should be able to see the "Maybank" word and UOB logo on the building.

yeaps i think you're right, did you use a too long shutter speed that movements in your hand caused the blurness? if not wrong probably you tried to create smooth water effect using long shutter speed, thus a stable tripod is essential to keep your photos in focus (: apologies in advance if i'm wrong!

Hi to all, will be getting a Tokina 11-16 Canon mount this trip when I am in HK. The lens is more for my son 700D and probably I can use it occasionally on my EOS M. Just need to check with the expert here on this lens if it is able to focus through live view as my EOS M dont have view finder. Thanks in advance for all answers.

Yes you definitely can focus through Live View. The question should more be whether it can AF and you can change aperture on the M itself. Based on Mr Rockwell, the answer seems to be yes if you are using the same adapter as he has described and reviewed.

Thanks richiemccaw1 for helping out again. I will read through the kenrockwell site and yes I do have the adapter. Thanks again.

Pleasure is mine man. Enjoy shooting!

Thanks bro. I have still yet the time to shoot with the EOS M. Will bring this to HK end month to do some shooting and lens hunting. The Tokina and Tamron will be more for my boys so will check out the 11-22 for the EOS M. Enjoy shooting bro!

is this lens good for taking group shots? how much is this lens?

super impressed by the photos posted in this forum with this lens.

wanted to get this lens for Canon mount as wanted to capture the full view of the scenery whenever going out for photoshooting.

Had this version 2. Very good lens for an upgraded version. Not much difference from version 1 if you already own one yourself. However I may sell it off soon if it gives hotspots for IR photography. Have yet to test it on IR.
