Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 User Group

hi all, I'm planning to go into landscape photography and learn more. I'm currently using a d5100. Would you all recommend tokina 11-16 ii or any other lens that are sharp too? Planning to use it as a walkabout lens too. Hope to hear some advice, thanks

Mk1 won't work with your D5100 unless you wanna do manual focusing as MK1 got no Build in motor. you'll need MK2 to work.

I should say, both D5100 and Tokina 11-16mm Mk1 does not have AF motor. but Tokina 11-16 Mk2 will come with Build in Motor and it will work with D5100. for MK1, only D300S, D90 and D7000 will work with it for DX.

Hi guys,

Anyone have both Tokina 11-16mm MK1 and MK2?

I am currently using a D7000, intending to get a wide angle lens. Upon much research, had decided to get this Tokina 11-16, as compared to FX wide angle lens like 16-35 F4, etc.
Read many reviews, it seems that the difference between the MK1 and MK2 is not that great, probably some flare resistant. My purpose for this lens is landscape photos and maybe indoor shots for group photos, as i have 35mm f1.8 DX and 50mm AFS 1.8G, unable to take a good group photos, i do have my 18-105mm VR kit lens.

So, judging from my uses, need some advice
1) Should i get the 11-16 MK1 or MK2?
2) What Filters should i be using with this lens? Intending to get a UV MRC and ND?
3) Apart from shooting landscape, do you use this lens to shoot something else in specific?

Thanks in advance!

You are right. I used to use tokina 11-16 with my D70 also. Just that I'm describing those which are currently selling. 😄

why not upgrade to D600:P

ok get the MK2 because the new coating seems to be better at controling flare. but how much difference in that im not sure.
u shld use UV MRC. use ND if u wanna to lloong exposure.
can use for street and show vertical lines in yr photo composition. thinking of leading lines

D600 is so expensive right now...! though really hoping the price will drop in the new year

Ive used both the version i and version ii of the tokina on my d3200. needless to say i ended up sticking to the version ii simply because of the auto focus motor and the better coating to help with flare. since youre using the d7000 the version i would be a good choice since its cheaper obviously and the extra coating does help with flaring but then again can be easily solved with the hood attached. I would say the biggest reason you should buy the version ii would be the auto focus motor. I use it mainly of landscape or building interior shots. Some times also a very good street photography lens since its so wide plus its f2.8 so good for low light areas.

Hi, any user reports in using the tokina 11-16 on the A57? Thx.

It should work great. i want to ask my friend to buy a sony version from HK but most retailers don't sell Sony mount. Wonder if anyone can provide some tips.

My old Tokina 11-16 still works great when called upon - is the new 11-16 really that much of an improvement?

Just bought this lens last fri..
I LOVE IT SOOOOO MUCH!!! :bsmilie:

Can some pls recommend a 10stop nd filter that doesn't cause vignetting? Thanks!
