Sadly in the Sgp context, the risk of cleaners loosing their jobs because we have done our civic part of clearing the trays ourselves is a possibility.

Just do what you think is right.
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.
One answers to being a civic/gracious society and to one's own morals, the other reasoning if being earnest about it answers to the implications that our actions however good may be twisted to be a bad thing by others (ie. food court operators)

2. Clear all other mess on the table e.g. those left by your fellowman.
3. Return tray to the collection point.

Introduce a $5 cash incentive for anyone returning trays.
Station a guy with a bag of money at the tray station to hand it out.
Singaporeans will be competing with each other for the trays to return.

Soon foreign workers will get into the act, People will be hovering above you as you sit eating your meal, waiting to snatch away your plate to bring to the tray return station and claim their reward.

Uncle Fai's relative will now insist on returning all the trays, bowls and plates saying that it is the compassionate thing to do, since the cleaning aunties and uncles have been overworked already.
