To clean or not to clean...

then maybe u want to collect next day lunch time. :) to double check and make sure they clean up the spots u wanted to clean before you pay and go. but sometimes u may get more spots :p

o.0 not 99.9% clean although i dun expect 100%

BTW, its the low-pass filter that the dust is sitting on, not the sensor.

Keke... thanks for the clarification.

In my limited experience, if the dust particle doesn't move off with a few hard pump of the blower, you need "contact" cleaning on your sensor. For me I will only blow the sensor if I see the spot at f/10. So far, the swab method works the best for me and is the cheapest. Google for the copperhill method, the total cost is $50+ when I got the required stuff from OP in sim lim. Should be enough material to last for at least 20-30 times of cleaning.

I was initially paranoid of the wet method, but since I couldn't find the sensorklear pen at cp and I was desperate...I thought what the heck. All the dust gathered from the past one whole year was cleaned off with just a few swab.

Ic... thanks for sharing the info.

hi .... i tink i did a very bad job trying to clean it myself ... ended up wif more dust .... do we hv to make an appointment before going there?

Nope, u dun need a appointment.

thanks ... will make a trip there on Monday

no appointment needed. take queue num.

Why don't you just clean it yourself first?
It isn't that hard, and iff it gets worse. just send in to CSC.
Maybe with luck you would be able to clean everything out:bsmilie:

Bring to CSC n pay to let em clean. After that, get multiple bodies so no need to unmount the lens:devil::bsmilie:. No lar just be careful in the future.;)

Hi I saw this thread and I'm deciding to bring my camera for a cleaning too.

Do I just have to bring the body + battery + CF card and nothing else?

Just the body.

its cheaper to buy your own sensor cleaning kit in the long run because dust will always be a problem. how many times do you want to visit CSC? once every 2 months?

it's so easy to do it yourself. just put the swab on, use some cleaning solution, 2 swipes and you're done. i've only cleaned my sensor once in like 4 years or something.

its quite difficult to screw up sensor cleaning as long as you use the recommended solution and swabs etc. you must try really hard or do something really dumb to break something.

anyway, CSC has a courier service and they can pick up the lens from you, and send it to your office/home after servicing. It's $9 per lens per trip. Cheaper than taking the cab, and don't have to waste time traveling. you can find out more from the CSC website.

i scrathed my viewfinder ... in fact ... many scratches  to change is Sgd30 but since it does affect pic quality i jus left it as it was.
shld hv jus bear wif the dirt n send it to CSC n pay Sgd21.40 wld hv save me the misfortune :embrass:

Ha, I sending it down as I am doing lens calibration also.
Anyway I just call them, is ready for collection... I will be collecting it during my lunch break.
My total charges is only SGD $$20++ for sensor cleaning...
Lens calibration i free but of cos I'm not sure did they do the calibration as I told them to calibrate if they seem deem to. I'm leaving the professionals in CSC to do the job.

I now thinking of getting Visible Dust Arctic Butterfly® 724 (Brite) Sensor Brush which is dry cleaning but this bugger is exp. No sure do i need to get one for future self-cleaning. Anyway still thinking...

i oso dunno .... maybe i m really dumb like wat antacid said ....." you must try really hard or do something really dumb to break something" :hung:

Seriously, sensor cleaning is easier and faster than brushing your teeth. Read your manual and do exactly what it says. I do it as and when required, only with a blower. If I have to send it down to CSC whenever it gets dirty, CSC's service cost alone would have cost more than my camera as I use prime lenses only and change lenses many times during a single outing. Believe me, it's that simple, don't waste your money.

Btw I was wondering is anyone doing dry cleaning using Visibledust Arctic Butterfly?
I was wondering where is the cheapest place in SG to get this? As it seem like not many places is carrying this product, the only place I know is Cathay Photo.

Not sure HGK is selling the above at cheaper pricing as I will be at HGK next month for business trip.

Any kind soul above to advice?

So far I have not encounter any persistent wet spots. Usually blower treatment will take care of dry dusts and dirt. On occasions when I do not have a blower with me, a quick splurt of air from lungs did the job.

I am not one who is paranoid about keeping everything speck and clean. Seriously, there is no need to if there is no impact on your output.

Just did a search on the site for Visibledust Arctic Butterfly.

I have seen someone used it. IMO, this is only usable when you are in a clean environment else where got time to put your sensor under magnifying glass and then execute a "rotating broom sweep". When you are on the road, which is when you need to clean dirty sensor, this would not come in handy.
