Hello Guys

Lets do a TLR outing sometime in China town.

Should it be a Mamiya C330/220, Rolleiflex 2.8/3.5 , Seagull, Yashicamat or Ikoflex, will be nice to take a group photo.

Anyone one keen? :)

Bro, that's my true love. How to resist??? ONZ!!!!!!

Ok, I will set a time. TLR 80mm F2.8.

Dear Gentlemen,

Rolleicord Vb V, Recesky, Holga TLR, Seagull 4B, Richoflex, Minolta Autocord, Mudan, Shanghai, ALL most welcomed

I know there is a large TLR community but we never really come together. Lets do a group photo! :D

When When When!!! cant wait to bring my tlr out for "exercise"

This guy is my idol. Fashion photographer turned large format TLR camera maker.

Peter Gowland!

I like this camera enthusiast, who put experience and knowledge into nice products ( also the probably don't make any commercial success.
Here is another one, Douglas Isaak Busch and his "Golden Bush" super large format. I was lucky to met him in person several times.

Very nice!

Singapore is limited by the availability of interesting subjects.
The traditional places been torn down to become artificial fake setups.
No big mountains or interesting land scape. Even the girls are not as attractive as those elsewhere :sticktong
Fortunately, in recent years things have improved.

The mainstay of TLRs are still the Rolleiflex

Rolleiflex 2.8E/F Planar great for B&W, a Beattie screen helps
Rolleiflex 2.8E/F Xenotar great for colour slides, defacto
Rolleiflex 3.5 Xenar surprisingly, very nice colour and impact
Rolleiflex 3.5 Tessar very sharp B&W prints
Rolleicord 3.5 Xenar light weight and compact
Ikoflex 3.5 Tessar equivalent to flex/cord and great pictures

ZEISS IKOFLEX IIa Zeiss opton tessar

Mamiya C220F + 80mm 2.8 black lens the pictures are comparable to the 2.8F planar, very compact
Mamiya C220F + 55mm F4.5 black lens this lens is tack sharp and modern quality
Mamiya C220F + 135mm F4 black lens nice portrait lens with great feel
Mamiya C330F + 80mm 2.8 chrome more retro feel in color, B&W has 60s character

Seagull 4A 109 plastic copy of the Rolleiflex MXV, cannot make it, poor reliability
Seagull 4A 107 red/gold/etc plastic versions best avoided
Seagull 4A 107 cheaper version to the Rolleicord, little difference from F8 onwards, OK camera
Seagull 4A 105 3 element cooke lens, weir swirl background when wide open
Seagull 4B1 3 element cooke lens, the lightest TLR

Yashicamat 124G tessar lens which is equivalent to the Seagull 4A-107, shuttle needs care
Yashica 635 my all time favourite, sharp stopped down to F8
Yashica D round aperture, similar to 635 but cannot take 135 film

and the lists go on....

Nikkornos, can you comment on which you prefer the lighter 220 or the full featured 330 ?

hello brother, the C220F is much lighter than the C300 series, and much easier to do street photography.

C330F automatically cocks the shuttle so less chance of error.
The C220 needs to **** shuttle manually.

Because of age, C220 has an issue on multi/single select switch but it is minor.
C330F may not be easy to mount some old chrome lens , also a minor issue.

C220 older version view finder not so bright. But can be easily changed.

The C220F is a better choice.

Thanks for the insight, I am still searching for a tlr to start off with. as of now i have no medium format camera. The interchangeable lens system is unique and really enticing.

Mamiya TLRs are one of the under rated and cheaper options for TLR.
The 80mm F2.8 black lens (blue dot) can rival Rolleiflex 80 2.8 Planar anytime.
The precision of the body is of typical Japanese standard. The mechanics are simple, and reliability is good.
Storing it in dry box for years it still can work OK. Not for some cameras.

Apart from 80mm, the 55mm is a great wide lens and the 135mm are great portrait lens.
The 180mm is also a class of its own. All in all, an affordable system to build still.
However, prices fluctuates somewhat, and recently going towards the high side.

Compared with the Hasselblad's(500CM or 503), the C220F + 80mm 2.8 wins in terms of taking shake free pictures.
You can search the web for honest opinion or next time outing can show you.
The camera is much easier to use, easier to hold and no shuttle vibration.

Also, doing macro with C220/C330 is very easy, just extend the bellows.

C220F has one issue, the light seal sponge can become power. But its easy to replace with new ones.
C330F is very heavy, preferably used in studio.

The Mamiya TLR is the only TLR that is a 'System camera with full range of options and accessories.
