[ Thoughts ] A trinity of lenses for OMD

For my recent 3 weeks Nepal trip...I brought along 25/f1.4, 7-14/F4.0 and 14-140.

When I am in Singapore, I usually just bring along 25/F1.4 and 45/F1.8.

I'm thinking of buying 20mm, 25mm and 45mm to compliment my 12-50mm kit.

Tot of using 20 mainly for street n gatherings for size n wide angle properties. 25 n 45 for portraits... The combo too "close" with marginal differences or benefits?

I'd suggest you drop the 20 and go for the 12 or 14 instead.

20 and 25 is too close imo.

Have a slightly different take on this.

What do u guys think ?

All zooms:
Oly 8-19
Pany 12-35
Pany 35-100

3 of the best in their respective class (unless of course u do alot of birding).

All Primes:
Oly 12
Pany 25
Oly 45/75

No surprises here.

There is no 8-19, 9-18 u mean. Pany 7-14 is better in my opinion.

12 f/2, 20 f/1.7, 45 f/1.8 for me any day but instead of 12mm could only afford 14mm. :bsmilie:

for my most recent trip (city vs the previous trip in the mountains) I brought along 25mm, 45mm, 7-14 and 14-140. Covers all range (mostly). Still had not used the 12-50 though had heard/seen gd reviews and pics from it.

Exactly the same here :p and bought the 14 secondhand lol

hahah same. The new 17mm f1.8 is tempting but may not be wide enough for indoor grp shots. headache lol

after a lot of experimentation, i personally find that the combo of the 12-35, 25, and 45 gives a great combination of versatility and IQ. at some point i will need to pick up the either the oly 75 or panny 35-100 as a telephoto though...

I only have the 12-50 and 75/1.8.
The 75's a gem, as good as any pro Nikon lens I've used.
Looking to see how the upcoming 15mm/1.7 and 42.5/1.2 perform.

So my trinity would probably be a 75mm/1.8 (maybe change to the 42.5 in the future), potentially the 15mm/1.7 and if only they'd make a rectilinear prime wider than 12mm. But in the absence of that, I guess the 12mm/2 is the third.

Trinity, meet God.

Personally, the best line up at the moment are as follows :

PL 7-14mm (ZD 7-14mm SHG if one can afford it).
MZD 12-40Pro
PL 35-100X
PL 100-300mm

I don't shoot primes. So I am not sure which are the best. But if I get to choose based on what I have seen, it should be

PL 20mm MkI
Oly 75mm f1.8
ZD 150mm SHG
ZD 300mm SHG

For me ,

It's the : 17/1.8 ,12-40Pro & 7-14 /4

Hoping to add to my list are the: 75/1.8 & 40-150/2.8 Pro.

The Otus looks really bad-ass. Its cost ??

The OTUS, when shot wide open at f1.4, edge sharpness is even sharper than the top end Nikon glass in the center.

That's why this is currently the "god lens".

The holiness doesn't come cheap but since u said it beats even the too end Nikon glass in e center , I'm sure there will be people out there adding this to their collection.

Almost all my friends who are shooting professionally have ordered one. This is like, the ultimate lens to go with those 30+MP cameras. I can imagine pin sharp product shots.

That'd be a dream lens for full-frame shooters for sure I'd imagine. Great sharpness from edge to edge, excellent colour rendition and correction, almost no distortion. If only Zeiss would transfer more of their cine lenses know how to M4/3 as well...I can imagine what a monster that the m4/3 25mm Master Prime equivalent would be like...
