Dropped by MS Color just now (quite late, around 8pm) to buy the Selphy 400 printer.

Came with a pack of 36 pieces of paper with Ink cartridge and a big canon bag.

FYI, most Selphy printers (those with paper/dye combo of 24/36 prints per package) are dry printers, with sheets of dye in three colors and print by heating up the dye to evaporate it and making it condense on the paper. The sheets are in close contact with the paper at all times thus for each print there's a fixed amount of sheets used. The quality is acceptable but not as good as current ink printers especially when printing dark scenes.

A few questions to those who have used such printer before:

- Is it, using dye means no ink? Dye comes with the paper? Does it mean each dye cartridge can only print a fixed number of photos, regardless of the photo contents?

- If you don't do any printing for some time, will the ink dry up in the print head? (My inkjet printer, if don't use for a week, have to do head cleaning before printing :( )

- If I bring such printer for overseas trip and just put in my check-in luggage, after all the tossing and turning, will the ink leak out? (Normal inkjet printer, we never turn it upside down lah, I think will leak.)

- Such printer only run on AC, rt? No battery or car adapter, can't really print 'in the field'? (The ads keep showing people printing in car and then the photo fly out...)

Thanks. (Sorry keep asking about printer. I may want to get the S2 earlier if printer is good deal.)

What I saw from the printer I bought for my colleague there is no ink, instead, it is like a sheet of dye paper in a cartridge. The MS staff took out everyting teach me how to use the printer. So after tossinga nd turning, no ink should leak out, since there is no liquid ink.

This 400 model cannot use battery. There is a more expensive model, going for near $400 that can use a battery pack.

yes.. printer "ink" is actually dyes...

It is a dye-sublimation printer :)

I have a CP-200, bought quite sometime back when it just release. Very convenient to print photos. Quality at least better than a normal color ink-jet. Color last longer too. However, it quite pricy if compare to send for Fuji prints :)

No ink. it come with the paper pack. The "ink" just enough for the stack of papers.

No ink, as such no leak. Can even take out the whole catridge if not using it. Good for travelling. However, you need to standby more. It could be difficult to source for the retail paper/ink pack overseas. I can't find it easily in Malaysia, even in orchard. :what:

As above.

There is a model with rechargeable battery built-in. Hence more ex.

Cheers!

how does the newer range of portable printers compare with the CP-10?

Coz I just bought the old model of CP-10 and printed some stuff with it. It looks wonderful to me.

Anybody has any inputs?

for CP-10

you will need to know where to get your medias (credit card size), coz the CP-200 series is not compatiable with CP-10, due to the film cart. size.

fpr CP-10/CP-100
the connection cable is different, if I remember correctly, CP-10/100 is using a flat type (not those standard USB) so you will need to purchase a cable from Canon make it work.
