thinking of replacing E520 to E3 or E5

if you need 40150 just go for it,never regret for the weight and image quality, and the super bokeh when you fully zoom in.. the bokeh characteristic and sharpness superb, really lightweight!

Personally i have all the 3 lens. Sold off the 40-150mm eventually.

This is my own opinion.

40-150 : Great for travel. Small compact, give decent pictures with a F5.6
70-300 : small enough to travel. but to get a sharp picture usually you'll want to step it down to a F8. But its one of the best len in the 70-300 class comparing across the brands.
50-200 : Amazingly sharp at the wide open end. Creamy bokeh and all... only problem is that it is kinda big... and i'm used to having a 12-60 as my walk around lens... so if you walk around is the 14-40... i think you'll find it VERY big and heavy. Kinda like a small bazooka... :).

No regrets with the pairing of the E-5 on the 50-200. My 70-300 is permanently on the E-510

Took me a while to decide whether to go for the E5 or not, and decided after looking at my lens collection and bit the bullet and have been rewarded with a camera that offers the best from both worlds. It is a DSLR with PEN functionality built in and a lot of fun as a DSLR. Granted Canon has similar offerings now but the lens, who doesn't love the Zuiko lenses? Therefore the decision to "complete" the regular 4/3 system was a good one. No regrets whatsoever considering you are buying two cameras. The image quality is improved as compared to yesteryear's flagship offerings. The best Olympus camera ever made. They weren't kidding. It is.

Granted I am switching to Nikon once the D700 replacement is released, as I think the Olympus DSLR market is pretty much "game over" they are lagging more and more when the competition is moving pretty fast forward with their R&D. I am quite disappointed in that sense, though the thought of hauling a heavier 135 FF camera scares me. We will see... there is a big big chance of me investing into the high end PEN series when it is out.

Olympus for me is now a love-hate relationship. I had a fling with medium format but man, the weight of hauling one though the image quality seriously kick butt but the human body ages and unless I am using this to make a living, I have to live with a lighter system, hence the Olympus DSLRs and PEN series still makes a lot of sense to me.

Depending on your consideration, it seems like the thread starter is at a point where he can stick with regular 4/3s or move completely into the PEN domain. Zuiko lenses don't seem to see new models coming soon, with all the resources poured into the micro 4/3 platform, looks like we can only hope hope hope that the partners like Panasonic can satisfy us with new M.Zuiko offerings and keep us all shooting happy.

Doesn't look like I am offering a good piece of advise to go for the E5 or not, but if you have a lot of Zuiko lenses like me, well, don't worry, the E5 will be a lot of fun. If you have a chance to choose... give it a little more time, and look around. You are looking for a shooting tool and don't limit yourself to a brand or a system. Consider what you need in your tool and make the right choice and be happy with it. Cameras these days are able to produce very decent images, it is a matter of how you use it.

But the final word is.... I have a lot of fun with the E5, and still loving it.
