Think my dry cabi is faulty and my lenses grew fungus

jialatz,

I left my lens cap on when I store in the dry cabinet....

Doesn't matter :) As stated above, that tip makes sense only if you have a special air tight lens cap.

I have a dry cabi in the office. When the air-con is on during the day, it helps the dry-cabi maintain the target RH, especially when you open/close for access. Mine works just fine. I personally don't agree with that tip, but ppl may do things differently based on their own usage experience. As long as you avoid those obviously high-humidity areas (your dry cabi will work extra hard), you should be fine.

In anycase, Octarine also disagreed with this tip, so I don't think you need to be concerned with it.
I ask this because mine dry cabinet is in the bedroom and sometime i do on the aircon. And the placement of the dry cabinet is right below the air con which is so call the bed side table location. My dry cabinet do come with internet blue light but i dont turn it on as it is too bright in the night.

My worries is the lens as i do keep some old lens and camera due to film shooting purpose.

As long as you have a functioning and accurate hygrometer to check that the RH levels are where you want them, and your dry cabinet unit is in working condition (e.g. not faulty), there is no reason for worry.

If you're turning it off at night, generally the dry cabinet is fairly airtight due to the design, if you don't open it during this period, the RH shouldn't increase too much. If you have a functioning and accurate hygrometer to check that the RH is where you want it, same thing, nothing to worry.

Dont see a need to turn on the light all the time if your dry cabinet is working normally.

As long as your aircon dont leak water that can hit the dry cabinet, no problem lah.

I keep my lens caps on simply because sometimes I am clumsy and accidentally hit odd corners when putting in or taking out.

Fungus grows well in high humidity, so as long as the RH works, dont matter if lens cap is on or not.

You only worry if the dry cabinet broke down and you did not realise it was not working for weeks.

Thanks alot. Aw i had set my dry cabinet at 40% RH due to some reading saying best for air-con. So the RH wont go higher then 50% when open close door or when air con is on.

Sorry to hear about your situation, yztan. Think you should have your lenses cleaned to get rid of the fungus. If I'm not wrong, the fungus, once inside the lens, can only grow and get bigger over time.

I see, in this case think I need to remove those UWA bulbous lens cap on those fixed hood. :D
