The Zone System, does it matter?

I can name a few photographers who practices the Zone System, and at the same time, are technically excellent and aesthetically pleasing. Plus, their images are not restricted to just wilderness pictures - John Sexton, Art Wolfe, Paul Caponigro, Jerry Uelsmann, Alan Ross, Yousuf Karsh, Chris Rainer, Michael Kenna, Sebastiao Salgado, Nick Vedros, Sam Wang, Paul Liebhardt, Herb Ritts, Arnold Newman, Igor Gavrilov, Barry Andersen, Ernest Brooks II and Nancy M. Stuart, etc....

You must be pretty naive to think the above photographers are who they are because of the ZS. lol.

i can totally ignore it and still come up with great pictures.

Wow over rated "non-sense" so is chaos theory, fuzzy logic and quantam mechanics to many. As there people who do not know aperture or shuttler speed or photography basic yet still have great picture sometime, I wonder it that the case here? There is such great thing we call luck. To some ignorant is bliss. I for one dun have ignorant luck.

I still wonder why people like to make this type of comment that do nothing good to this thread? "Over rated non-sense in my world" no matter how you phase it offer nothing to people, who wish to know more about zone system and see they could improve their photography level through knowing it. If it offer nothing why the statement? :dunno: "Totally ignore it" why tell us? If it work for you good for you. Is by telling us to be an ignorant it going to help people understand exposure better?

I don't see anyone criticising anyone who practices the ZS. But I see some bombarding those who don't use it/or believe in it.

When I wrote these photographers practice the Zone System, I do not mean they became famous because of Zone System. There are ton of people out there who know the Zone System. Why aren't they famous?

To OT, you don't become a Singapore Idol or Project Superstar just because you know how to hum a few songs.

I see it pointless for me to continue on this thread. I will NOT contribute any more postings. However, I will check here once a while to defend my stand and point-of-view of the system.

For those who SERIOUSLY are interested in learning the system. I do conduct miniature workshops once a while. Check out the next commencing dates under the 'workshops' thread.

And for those of you who argue the hell out, you will come to realise ONE DAY that knowing the system is something really valuable and helpful, unless you give up photography entirely of course.

An open-mind to respect other people's believe in the system rather than commenting on it being useless. This is what I meant. This is what John Sexton meant also.

I am in no mood to argue with 'closed-minded' individuals. But I have this to say. I know a lot of photographers don't use the system. At least they don't criticise others who do.

BTW, yes I learn Taichi. In fact I started learning Taichi from my first uncle since I was fifteen.

After so many posts by me. Are these the only points you got? How about the lengthy ones that explain why the zone system is very much matter? Is it making me look like a bad guy make your points or what ever they are better. Oh what are the points you make about this zone system thread? Are these your replies eariler "over rated non-sense in my world.", then follow by " Don't use my nick and post". So where your points that zone system is a "over rated non-sense". Oh ya that right in your world. Why tell us? Is it you are telling us we should believe zone system is over rated and a nonsense? Later why claim someone else use your nick? Who is the real and been sincre here?

Let get a few facts straight from this horse mouth oh by the way that refer to me. (A lot of people "dun read" here proven by photobum) I did not or never claim I did not call people name. I do, so did "other party" and people who read will see that.

If I can be call a dog, then I am one tha bark when what I know are misinformation or unfair comment about the zone system and the people here who know what they are talking about.

Student, Photobum and I say the same thing. That is "zone system is very much matter now". So who is who's supporter? In fact I think I wrote the longest reply here and in my "camp" we are all treated equal. Only childish people and politician in "my world" need supporters.

Wow "new found authority". Let me point out the authority here is not new found. The authority here is that I am using the zone system and I been learning it for more then 15 years. Also by knowing some people are misleading other give me the authority.

Why do I need the moderator? Oh I rememeber some one claim some other people is using his nick. Now that surely the job of the moderator to check on it.

Oh saying that I need a new owner is your way of playing nice? Then I "must" be "nice" to you and your supporter" Trust me on that
