I am posting this for newbie to RF, because i believe in this short quote is encapsulated the essential difference and principle of RF. if you can understand this, you are ready to dump SLR and play with RF.

if you are thinking of trying RF, you should think deeply abt this and observe this law when you play with RF.

when i first started RF, i wasted so much time because i didnt know this

"There's a profound difference between the simple non-reflex, direct-viewing camera (such as a rangefinder Leica) and a SLR. With a reflex you tend to make the picture in the camera; with the other, you see the picture and then put a frame around it. The RF camera is also faster, quicker to focus, less noisy, and smaller, but these advantages are much less important than the fundamental difference."

Elliot Erwitt has basically summarised the beauty of seeing through a RF that has got so many of us hooked here :)

totally agree.. a rangefinder is for taking pictures which the eye finds interesting. A SLR is for taking pictures interesting when seen through the camera.

Hmmm.... that is one way to express it, but actual fact is that SLR is more accurate (in fact it is what you get is what you see) compares to a RF... Your eyes is not your lens... which means what you you see through the RF window is not the same as how your film see through the lens... am I right to say that?
