i agree with u but tourism & modernization is slowly changing their natural way of life...so the poor kids there might find that begging might be an "easy way out" for a meal. instead of going to any kind of school for an education they beg...sometimes even for begging pimps. and these pimps just reward them with a few bread crumbs.actually i feel that the girl is the way she is ("tough", "never gives up" etc etc) is because she doesnt know what else could be more in her life. she was born in a place where hardship IS a way of life, older kids are expected to take care of younger siblings and work, and people just go about doing their chores because it IS their life. and nobody is any different.
fly her back to any civilised place and let her live the US or Singapore way for a year or two, and then put her back to where she came from. she might not feel so "lucky" anymore. but then again, she might even love her life even more![]()
the way things are simple and uncomplicated.
we may be very lucky in the material sense in our society, but very often we are still very impoverished spiritually. look at all the mental and suicide cases. how we all still complain and feel unhappy everyday. how people are dying unnaturally cuz of our lifestyle (cancer, sudden deaths). we are also often trapped. trapped in our jobs we hate but cant quit cuz u need to put bread and butter on the table. sucked in addictive patterns we cant seem to quit.
i dont think this happens in that village of where that little girl came from.
in some sense, i actually envy her![]()
thx =)another excellent shot.....more pls!![]()

thanks. i was with 2 journalists who were doing a story on the children around the area & we learnt about her poor situation through an interview with older senior kids.powerful image.
one question though, how do you come to know her "plight"?
