where are you d700xs :lovegrin:

Yes I think it is an unesay sort of partnership. Afterall each has a range of their own cameras competing against each other. I personally wouldn't want to be in that position as far as possible.

Actually, Japanese don't really care if a competitor uses their parts. It's a free market. They have the mentality that it's still eventually a Japanese product that reaches a consumer. They will just use parts that they think will best do the job. I think the major brands are members of CIPA and they will make sure that they only give each other healthy competition. Just look at Nikon and Canon, they make sure their cameras are tiered such that there is no direct competition. I think even before a model is released, they already know what features each other have and when to market in a win-win situation... One good example is the impeccable timing of the release of D90 and 5DmkII.

So do Panasonic and Nikon. They have their respective sugar daddies too...

Oh Sony, why must you do this to me.

Just as I am happy with my APS-C due to high price of FF body and lens,

I discovered the power of the affordable Tokina 28-70 F2.6-2.8 AT-X Pro II and now, A850 <$3k!!! Looks like he days of D700 < 3k is coming and days of a FF setup <4k is not that far...

My plans to add lens is suddenly disrupted haha. (need to think 2X abt APS-C since FF break the 3k barrier).. In fact, if A850 was using D700 sensor, there will be 1 less nikon user posting inside this forum!! hehe

It's all a conspiracy!!! I feel like adopting another 2 systems now... A850 with ZA lenses when I need full-frame... Oly P1 with Pana lenses when I need small.. and just stick with Nikon DX for everything else....

..........but I'm put off by the layout of the A850.. Think I'm still pretty much a Nikon person.. ;p

You think we are in Sony camp not shocked? This move also change my plan to purchase new lens. :(

I'm considering a D700 or it's next upgrade, but this Sony actually got me a little excited from its lower price and lower weight (20%lighter than D700).

I think Nikon has too many legacy lenses and need to step carefully when introducing new lenses to ensure it doesn't cannibalize but Sony has a freehand and is desperate for market share & may be more advanturous with its offering in terms of price and range.

Things that will hold me back will be poorer resale value, may share same mediocre low light performance as A900 and their lenses' sharpness.

I went to Sony shop in Ion yesterday but have not arrived and only managed to try the A380.

Sony.. let's see.....

Full frame sensor? check!
low price? check!
gorgeous viewfinder? check!
quieter shutter? check! (based on my A900 hands on..)
have an AF 35 f1.4 in the lens system? check!
have updated fast primes in system? check!
weather sealed? check!
have German legacy optics in lens system? check!

All in all, a VERY attractive system :) Especially with the AF 35mm f1.4....

heard Nikon sensors are made by Sony Electronics... true ? :sweat:

to me any camera is good as long as picture quality delivers + pricing is reasonable.. friends, learn this = dun burn your heard-earned money for a brand.. we are not given a loyalty medal for being a fan boy

Well done Sony !! This should pave the way for FF becoming more and more affordable . :thumbsup:

perhaps it's time to move this thread to the right forum?

Hmm lsisaxon, ZA lens.... drool...

Hmm hows the shutter sound compared to A700? I think A900 is okay but A700 is still the best. Others are crapped.

1) 24MP --> Fail. compromised low light performance, large files to transfer. D700 win
2) Bionz white balance --> Fail. My preference for white balance especially tricky light situation is still in Nikon or Sony. More neutral for sunset, night... D700 win
3) Lens --> Zesis. Winner
4) Sony service centre location --> Winner
5) Sony Price in S'pore --> Winner
6) VR on sensor --> not my preference. I still believe high zoom need a super VR compared to say 85mm. I also dun like the idea of sensor moving here and there.. (worried abt long term sharpness)
7) 3fps --> U must be joking.

S6pro@<$3k, where r u? haha... Faint

Nah... I think this thread is for Nikon user to talk about the Sony new FF camera body. Unlikely to fit well in the Sony forum.

Then again, a lot of time, the person with the most patient would get the best deal in the end. So yes, Sony is selling the cheapest FF camera body now (as much as we can tell), but that does not imply Nikon would sit idle to do nothing about it. In the end, everyone would be happy with cheaper FF camera body.

i think if any Nikon users who would want to talk abt Sony's camera should do that in the Sony forum. This is, afterall, a Nikon forum, for discussing Nikon equipment.

True. Nikon has been using Sony CCD sensors in the older bodies and co-developed the CMOS sensors for DX. I think Nikon also supplies Sony the steppers for FX sensors. Anyway, it's not for us to worry about the business details Nikon has with Sony. It's definitely strategic for both parties and obviously they have achieved a win-win situation by signing on the contract.

Anyway, digital photography is not just about sensors. A lot of effort goes into the in-camera post processing algorithms as well. That's why you can see different brands using same sensors and giving results which can be quite different.

what lsisaxon says is true,

Nikon has been using their sensors for a long time come,

and it has been good for us.

Nikon puts in alot of efforts into their colouring algorithms,

hence the difference from other makes of DSLR.

now, the sony dslr system may be good but i think it's a personal choice,

and i would choose nikon due to the fact i'm comfortable with it, and that's reason enough.

Wow.. IMF downgrading SG economic growth from -4% to -6% quoted by official, to -7%. Mumm, the lalong sound of the D300 (no video) is coming louder & louder... where is the my >S$2K D300?? I also have to further:bigeyes: downgraded my D300 budget to pull through this tight time

looks like N & S are "indirectly" same company/family in photography industry, both has bloodlines in each other.. :sweatsm:
