The New Canon 650D/T4i

Actually also not that keen on a touchscreen LCD, call me old-fashioned but I prefer conventional buttons. On a camera, that is.

Yawn... what happened to Canon? Same thing every year.

Old saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it. I thought 650D is a incremental progression from 600D. The new sensor should perform better. The touch screen is quite gimmicky but might appeal to first time DSLR buyers. I like the dedicated video switch as I always have a hard time to switch to video mode on 600D. Comparing 550D to 600D, this upgrade is more worthwhile. My 2 cents worth :)

Pancake I love it ! More please.

The swivel screen + touchscreen would make things very convenient for those shooting with tripod in the dark, especially for those low/awkward angles. Can't wait to see what 70D brings. That's the one I have in mind to get.

It was just hoping for a probability. If there isn't a new line of products and 7D2 isn't an APS-H sensor, that would mean APS-H will be completely phased out from Canon's DSLR line.

APS-H still remains a relevant sensor size for those who wants a little extra reach, but not too cropped like APS-C.

I think APS-H is gone but there is still some dim hope from an interview with Chuck Westfall. But Chuck Westfall was also the one to say years earlier that the main reason Canon produced APS-H was the then very high cost of producing FF sensors. That actually sounded the death knell of APS-H to me when affordable FF sensors was available.

DB: Moving forward, has Canon dropped the APS-H sensor from its future plans?
CW: The 1.3 crop sensor is not being killed off. Canon is keeping all options open for future products.

Thanks for the share, was a very interesting read :)

I was surprised by this actually:

DB: Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software does an excellent job handling high ISO noise, where products such as Adobe’s Lightroom seem to struggle. Why doesn’t Canon license their RAW processing engine to other software makers?
CW: Canon has an SDK that includes its RAW processing engine that is freely available to other software vendors. To my knowledge no other software maker has chosen to utilize our NR algorithm.

Does anyone actually process high ISO noise in Canon's Digital Professional and then further process in LR?

Would have been better if they offered 24MP to rival Nikon and upgraded the 9-pt AF and removed all those fancy gimmicks, which would be useless if AF is not spot-on. I am not sure about touch-screen, it seems cool but also means more chances of failure like some of my Smartphones.

woah... just had a deja vu reading your statement. Was reading some other thread in another photography forum yesterday night and the member was recollecting how some pro long ago was saying that AF is just a gimmick and will not be seen in pro-level bodies. Don't really understand but seems that there's always resistance to accepting new features for photography, especially if it's not immediately/apparently useful. Live View is another one. Well, I say just throw it in and let the market decide. The feature will get removed if it doesn't work out, like Canon's ECF.
:)

I am sure all those new features would make "nice-to-have's" but not crucial in photography. What's crucial is AF, and 9-pt seems ancient by today's standard. Guess I will have to wait for the 70D. ;p

I want the old Canon that was innovative and willing to take risks. That old Canon gave us the modern SLR form factor, experimented with pellicle mirror and eye controlled focus (failed but interesting concepts), fully electronically controlled lens (EF mount), affordable digital FF etc..
Seems like Sony has taken over as the innovator.

Well I guess Canon learnt their lesson after 1D3's disastrous launch, they won't dare to put anything revolutionary on a Pro body anymore.

Let's see... 7D was the lab rat for transmissive viewfinder, 40D has the first liveview, 600D has the first rotating screen on an EOS... And 650D with hybrid AF. Soon the hybrid AF will make its way to the next 5D and 1D... Let the entry level models gather the most feedback and least destructive.

Without the entry level bodies testing the water I'm sure our 5D3 would still be a FF with higher MP but the same AF module as 5Dc lol!

Wasn't the 60D the first EOS to feature such a screen?

but but but the 61AF points with 41 cross-type points IS something revolutionary, and it's the 2nd rare time that Canon placed a 1-series AF system on a non-1 series body :p

Flip screen - the old G series had it for years.
AF system from 1-series - forced to do it cos Nikon's AF even on non-pro bodies was way too good.

All of these updates have been there from the mirrorless camp well ahead. Why is canon lagging behind........

They have? I didn't realize all MILCs have phase detection AF

Well I'm not sure what you meant by lag behind then. Care to elaborate?

Anyone got the 650D already? Heard shops have received stocks....
