my problem: whenever i clicked on a link to download a .dmg file (whether from Safari or FF), the download won't start automatically. sometimes, i have to right-click on the link and choose the option "Download Linked File As"...

any idea how to resolve this issue?

In Safari, maybe you can try Opt(ion) + clicking the link (provided it's a direct link).
