harlow Kongo! so touched logged in from shanghai, i know how slow it can be when i used POCO in sg. thank you so much for dropping your kind comments! and i want to recommend huixian to u to shoot ... also for selfish reasons besides being kind :P coz i think she makes a good 'Kongo girl' haha! but of coz u can reject, but u may hurt her feelings haha! kidding yah ... jus a candid suggestion : )

hope it s not too cold in shanghai. good night!

:o:o 强!

强中自有强中手,真真不敢当! thank you v much, UandMe! good night!

amazing work, the picture itself already told the story. the story is filled with emotions and i think its structured pretty well。 令人拍案叫绝的作品, 仔细的欣赏,犹如身入其境, 有点触景伤情  :bheart:. looking forward for more of your work! 加油!

harlow Soulz86! thank you thank you! i m glad it touches u in some way ... though i wouldnt wish u ve got related personal experience. just hope u are moved & move on, it s just a story afterall : ) take care, good night!

Let me take a contrarian view on this series, even though, I have nothing to profit from it.

I like the pictures, in general, they are well taken. I like some more, some less, and I don't particularly like some, and that is life.

Now, this is supposed to be a story. I will make an assumption that this is a photo story, and the photographs are supposed to TELL the story.

My first impression is, as a photo story, this series falls flat on it's face. After looking at all the pictures, in sequence, a few times, I still have absolutely NO idea what story are they trying to tell. I am totally lost.

After reading the narrative, or the story it self, ok, fine, let me look at the pictures again. I am still confused as I just cannot put the pictures together with the texts. They do not compliment each others what so ever. And the pictures did not convey the feeling of loosing one's mother, the yearning to see her, nor did the pictures convey the changing of emotion as prescribed by the text.

This is my opinion, as a photo story, this set fails, period.

story base is good, perhaps, in my opinion, lack of two charactors.
one male, dressed like a very succesful tycoon, and a little 6 yrs old girl. man and little girl appeared in early picture once,
and ending man silhouette with grown up soon dying girl facing ,
girl slowly receding into smaller size and fade off,
last pic, left man silhouette alone, maybe a tombstone with girl picture.

will add cost in the production,.

Wow.... another story photo series. U guys are good  love the feel. I like the way you added the path within the trees & seats on the bridge to complete it. Little things like these add a lot to it.

Went to 周庄 with my wife on Monday & it rain the whole day, my tianz..
Tot of setting up tripod to do some evening or night shoot at the 小桥流水人家 but gotta give up becos of the rain.. in the end I become 断肠人在天涯..

Wah you say until like dat how can I reject.. lol.. I don't think I can better your effort thou.. :embrass:

it's simply amazing. and i love it so much!!! yes i think 亲情 definately more touching than 爱情.. Do u mind share about the rainbow effecT(pic 4 and 13).. hope it's not too much to ask for? it's DI or?... i love that effect. =P thanks

harlow handman! thank you for the kind comments! the flares some are painted in photoshop and also using photos of flares. but after i done them i read abt this software called Knoll Light effects on POCO, seems more random than the easily recognisable cheapo PS flare. i must add that it is achieveable in camera. and also to remember u r showcasing your portraits, not the flares. no matter how proud u are of the effect u created, they shld not overshadowed the main focus. hope i don't sound too preachy!

good night!

hi DP, thanks for your compliments on the photos and taking time to feedback on the story. i guess i am the one who profited from it haha! u belong to the niche group of audience with above normal unusual good taste, i guess i have a long way to go for my work to be able to appeal to those of your class. what u pointed out are common issues with photostory and i m surely guilty of it in this set. though i do not agree that the whole set simply falls flat and fails -- from the responses i ve got here and elsewhere, something must have worked -- i will definitely take note of those things shld i do something like that again : )

thanks again & good night!

Think I'm gonna be another bad guy. Though before that, something to make you happy first. :-)

I can see your point to put in a feel. And I do feel it (only after reading the text). The calm and sad feel is in it.

Well, I find quite a number of shots are repeating. As in composition. It would be better if you organize your shots, rather just dump everything in a sequence with no sense. I do like your ending part which shows the empty scenes. They are good in the series. But I would have put them all together in a combo instead of separated shots.

it s not as easy as it seems for good story telling in mediacorps dramas too : ) good night!

harlow tunster, dun say like that man, if i don't mind DP at all, then how can u be a bad guy when u actually try making me happy first haha! i am happy to recieve compliments coz my ego is stroked but doesnt mean it is too big to take some honest opinions : ) i really think your inputs are sound & fair.

i guess it would be only be more sincere to reply more in return for the worthy inputs. hope it don't sounded too defensive.

the repeated composition issue, i got troubled over that too. i think the root of the problems is i didnt shoot enough variety to chose from.

the combo idea u mentioned, came to my mind first too. the thing is there is a certain pace in the writing, so i needed photo after photo to keep get the pacing in the final part. the way i see it is the story unfolding by flipping pages of a book.

as for the dumping sequence issue, i think from your standpoint, it s totally valid.
but here is why i did what i did. the 'backstory' in my mind is that the viewer is in the dad 's position, looking through the photos he shot as a memorial for the daughter on their last family outing, reading her last farewell letter to him. it s those cliche moments we r familiar with in dramas, the photos playing through and the contents of the letter is voice over. so the photos don't have to tell the story in the gal's letter. maybe it d be better if i didnt call it a photostory to begin with. nevertheless, i must say that all these stuffs arent really made too clear to the viewer in the first place. that s why i agreed what u siad is valid.

so no worries man, i am grateful there are ppl liking this set, but i know it has still got so much room for improvement. thanks for your pointers! good night, tunster!

sorry for being a probing type... just to fufill my curiousity.

* any story board beforehand or concept.

* does the model know about the charactor ( of the story ) that she is posing.

* full duration of this story production..1 month or 2.

* what is the cost.

it's at your discretion for not replying to the above if you find it private and confidential.

Hi CabbySHE, this is not a professional production but just 1-photog-1-model show, so i don't know why u asked but since they sounded so intelligent, i shall reply :P

1. no storyboard but got concept. but as i ve replied to virgo earlier, the relationship changed from BGR to father-daughter later on.

2. she knows of the story and character but i made it as vague as possible

3. i finished 2 mths after the shoot but it doesn''t mean i m on it 8-5 a day.

4. the cost of the dress, which i ve forgotten but below 100 for sure. we took bus there (cheapo), i also don't know how much the fare, must count? haha!

thanks for the question, ve a good weekend!
