The DX/FX Dream Team

i am working on the assumption that i have both.

i will want the fastest lenses i can get with the FX, because when its coupled with its High ISO capability, it can make for pretty amazing work.

70-200 on DX, i am mostly using 200 for sports. on DX, thats 300mm FOV on FX. and i still do not find it close enough. with a 400mm on FX, it might be close enough for me. 500mm, maybe not. i fancy that f/2.8 more.

no sense getting exact same setups when u have both DX and FX right? that will frankly not make sense to me. i am juz a hobbist. enough to clear the air for my decision, sir?

Sure but then you are not answering the question, because you are choosing 6 lenses to work in tandem. The OP wants 3. If you list 3 for DX and 3 for FX then you could be answering the question if you interpret the original question as 3 each.

But on your basis you're selecting 6 to work in tandem.

For me
DX - Sigma 30mm f1.4 / Tammy 17-50mm f2.8 / 70-200mm f2.8

FX - 14-24mm f2.8 / CZ 85mm f1.4 / 24-70mm f2.8

cover most of the area i need.

DX: Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8, Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR II
FX: Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8, Nikkor 85mm f1.4D, Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR II

:)

If i really do have to choose the exact same working range on FX, as what i have for DX,

24-70 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, 400mm f/2.8.

to each his own. to me i think using the D700 like how i will use my D300, is a serious waste. with a speedlight, you dun need that high ISO. so it becomes a waste.

no leh, i only heard of 58mm f/1.4 :)

i think whole night, still catch no ball.

My personal dream team - middle range get the least usage for my style

DX : 12-24DX, 17-55DX, 85/f1.4
FX: 17-35f/2.8, 24-70/f2.8, 85/1.4

Regardless DX/FX, get these only 14-24 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 200-400 f2.8, 50 f1.4G, 85 f1.4
u need 1 more f/1.4 - The AF-S 24mm f/1.4 and it shall be complete.

If u were given the option of choosing 3 lenses to make up your "Dream Team"
Which 3 lenses will it be? ;)
if dream dream only, can just anyhow all the exotic Nikon lenses.

if you are talking about working lenses, than that wouldn't be anything too fancy, beside, people already can use Canon Rebel plus kit lens shoot wedding professionally, as long get some decent lens to get the shot you want is more than enough.

If I have one or the other:

DX: 12-24, 17-55 and 70-200

FX: 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200

If I have both:

DX: 70-200, 300 f2.8 and 500 f4

FX: 14-24, 24-70 and 85 f1.4

DX: cheap + good, tokina 11-16 F2.8, tamron 17-50 F2.8, Nikon 70-200 VR1

FX(dream): nikon 24 F1.4, 24-70 F2.8, 85 F1.4

The 58mm f1.4 exists ... CV
The SLII has pretty good reviews

Have been trying to get into primes (can't use the word regressing, right?)...
The CVs are interesting due to their small-ish nature
Choose three: 20mm f3.5, 40mm f2 and the Nikon 85mm f1.4
Or sub the Ultron for the 50mm AI-s f1.2

Still using my D50 (DX Dslr) ... so for DX,

this single "cult" status AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED (3.6x) ...
http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/lens/af/dx/af-s_dx_zoom55-200mmf_4-56g_ed/index.htm ...

will rule them all !

Below 55mm, use your eyes to see; no need to photograph
Beyond 200mm, details already beyond my blurry eyes, so no point zooming in so far and looking for minute details to critic

For FX, yeah, have to dream but so far in my dream, I still could not focus on one let alone three super duper lens...

my dreams so far only ... Brad Pitt, Brad Pitt and Brad Pitt

At the moment I only shoot DX so these would be my "wants" (in terms of priority, not range)

1. 50mm f1.4
2. 18-105mm kit lens
3. haven't found the UWA I want, at the moment using 10-24mm but not entirely satisfied with it. It should be something with big aperture like f2.8 to complement (2) which I prefer to something more expensive like Tamrom 17-50 f2.8 because it offers the higher zoom I would otherwise not be able to reach.

If I were to go FX, I would like the following
1. 24mm f1.4
2. 85mm f1.4
3. 16-35mm f4

I have both DX/FX body and my dream Team Lens would be
f2.8 20mm, f2.8 24-70 & f2.8 70-200 VR2

Based on existing Nikon product line-up, it would be (on FX):

(a) 17-35mm f2.8
(b) 85mm f1.4
(c) 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 VRII (yet to acquire)

The above focal-length-group would do nicely for my area of photography and be easily carried around daily and not be too stressful that it be kept in dry cabinet most of time.

Dream ...

(a) an improved 17-35mm (17-40mm) f2.8 ~ yet to test the current 16-35mm f4 VR
(b) still the current 85mm f1.4 ~ fearing that putting AFS, Nano, VRII, etc may "hurt" the character of this current version too much
(c) 70~80-200mm f4 or a 100-300mm f4 (is it possible, size-wise:dunno:)
