ok, the day is today... Been using Braun "vibrating" type toothbrush (pulsating is probably a less "vulgar" word) but today saw this Ionic Toothbrush in Watson with a catchy sales & marketing kit that literally shouts

"No toothpaste needed"
"More efficient plaque control"
"Reduces bad breath"

... if I remembered correctly, which I think I did.

How does an ionic toothbrush work?

Dental plaque is bonded to teeth by positive ions. Negative ions flow from the ionic toothbrush breaks this bonding mechanism between teeth and plaque for efficient cleaning and removing.

Ionic toothbrush is clinically proven by studies at universities in the USA and Japan to remove plaque up to 48% more effectively than ordinary manual toothbrushing.

Battery is build-in for discharging negative ions and will last more than 1 year under normal use. I believe battery is non-replaceable while Ionic brush head is.

My question is... how can my ionic toothbrush control/reduce bad breath when you just use it normally but without toothpaste???

Image is very important to me, so I must ensure I have no bad breath from using a Ionic Toothbrush ;p

Any dental specialist here?

erm.. cos if no germs, no plague then no bad breathe??

don't know leh...

used it for a day, breath like not very refreshing but funny is white foam appeared from nowhere

Negative ions. wonder whats the chemistry?! if there's water involved, could be OH-, and they bond to the +ve ions in ya mouth. wow.... if it reallly works, the inventor will be bloody rich.

dun think it'll solve bad breath though, which is caused by bacteria in your mouth, mainly on the TONGUE! via lack of oxygen, the bacteria wreck havoc and multiply, and give out foul-smelling gases, hence bad breath. toothpaste is slightly alkaline, hence neutralise some of the acidic bacteria etc, and the minty flavour masks the breath. But most of the bacteria are still there! The most sensible way is to scrape ya tongue, at least twice a day. Then u'll notice no more listerine, or even toothpaste needed.

There's no shortcut, brush, floss, scrap. maybe ionic can change the brush, but dun think it can change the equation to healthy teeth. :)

ya, water is involved. The instruction of use is "With a wet palm or finger, lightly touch the metal band on the toothbrush. Then brush normally. After brushing, rinse and store in a dry place to ensure maximum battery life"

-ions were most commonly used in air purifier (e.g.KANKYO) thus...

i bought it like more than 1 year ago... kinda useless... i still prefer using those electronic toothbrush... think the best is still visit your dentist regularly...

u mean FOAM actually appeared when you used the ionic tooth brush?

All you put was water?

I've been using this thingamajig too. Except I did not know about the no toothpaste part. I use it with toothpaste..or it'd be odd or gross depending on how you look at it. It sort of works but to a limited degree....

You mean you bought a ionic toothbrush 1 year ago and in Singapore? hmmm, thought this was a ground-breaking technology that will revolutionalize the way one brush their teeth  :bsmilie:

useful or useless, let us see... but thing is, how to see? Anyway, am a sucker for new technology. In a way, I always like to prove things right or wrong. So, what does that make me as a person?

Water to wet my hand and the brush head was all I did. The foam bits I also not sure where it comes from. Thought it was a natural reaction from brushing but it was a little bit too foamy to be natural....
