Not sure what is the exact feature you are looking for to qualify the best. For a small camera, I vote for Rollei 35 or 35S.

the black olympus miu fixed lens 35/f2.8 is pretty small.

AF and a pretty sharp lens, very afordable priced today.

Used to be my only travel companion for many years...

How about the Olympus mju II? Light, simple to use and a sharp 35mm f2.8 lens. And it cost under $100 used.

I suggest either one of the cameras as below.

Olympus XA: Compact, brilliant design, very sharp lens, does not look serious
Ricoh GR1: Beautiful 28mm lens, tough body, compact
Minolta TC-1: Love this one, perfect round bokeh, beautifully constructed
Contax T: The only true RF Contax compact
Rollei 35s: Made in Singapore!
