Hope it wasn't free, cos I went all the way down to collect it. =/ And yeah, the 18-55-250 combi is definitely a great starter set.

How does the fliter protect the lens? Are you talking about a polarized filter or just a normal one. I can't get a polarized filter, due to that the lens i'm going to get has a rotating focus in the front. During AF or manual modes.

I just got my Canon 450D 1.5 months back. My beginning kit includes:
1. Canon 450D with Kit Lens [EF18-55mm IS]
2. Canon EF55-250mm IS Lens
3. Hoya UV Filters
4. Digi-Cab 30L (more than enough to store 2-3 bodies and 4-6 lens)
5. Panasonic Tripod (given free by the retailer - may upgrade to a better one later)
I am now shopping for a (heavy duty) battery, a good flash unit, a EF50mm lens and a haversack camera bag. Any good suggestions for these? Any other survival kit I should add?
Well, I've made up my mind to get the following items. Hopefully i can get them within the next few weeks. Hope my mom sponsor's me...Wee...thanks to everyone for the good advice. You can still suggest to me any ideas though...I'll take them to consideration and I'll appreciate what you tell me.
The stuff I'm getting:
Canon 450d with kit lens [18~55mm IS]
Canon lens [55~250mm IS]
Digi Cabi DHC series Dry box - DHC 040 (Not sure about the price, but if it's too ex, I'll buy a different model)
Lens Hood (Not sure if i should get one?)
Filter (Would it be good to have one?)

How much you paid at the I.T show? Did you get the 55-250mm lens at the show too. Their 55-250mm lens price was a rip off....I got my 450D during the June IT Show. Guess we are in a very similar suituation of wanting to have better gear to shoot better. My kit now comprise of the following;
1. Canon 450D with Kit Lens [EF18-55mm IS]
2. Canon EF 55-250mm IS Lens
3. Canon EF 50mm F1.8
4. Canon EF 85mm F1.8
5. Canon Speedlite 430EX II
6. 2x UV Filters and 1 x CPL Filter
7. Digi-Cab 50L
8. Benro A500EX Tripod
9. Lowepro Fastpack 250
10. 2 x Phottix battery from Ebay
Thinking of getting both the EF 24-105mm F4 and the EFS 10-20mm to replace the kit lens.
Sigh, kena the BBB virus...

That was a rip off price right. So expensive. Oh is the additional warranty by canon or best denki? The canon booth was represented by best denki you know. Haha...Oh so additional warranty cost $150. Not bad....Haha...paid SRP $1,499 for the 450D, with all the freebies. the 55-250mm was bought @ Cathay at $360, if remembered correctly.
bought the extended warranty (extra 2yr) at $150 and they throw in the 50mm F1.8.
ya man...the 55-250mm during show was going for close to $500...so called purchase with purchase promotion![]()
