Hi Guys,

not necessary .... I mean you can either be good-looking or outright very ugly .... ppl will be interested.... but if you look too ordinary, then i dont think anyone would be interested,,, so we are all still curious .... u look good or bad? :o

I hope you have an idea what you want or are you looking for some one to do the creative for you ? I think if you are interested in doing this artistic portfolio of yours you should meet up with who ever you feel comfortable with and discuss the whole shiz bang first if it gels on both sides to do the shoot.

Some how I think there is a dollar tag to this that has to be discussed, props, make up and even locations cost money, while shooting if supposed to be practise for both - a fair dealing of the costs has to be discussed. A total freebie either ways would not work.

I understand where u r coming from. we all know CS got alot of hum sup lohs who shoot pretty girls and not photography.

However, this is also for photographers with real intention to gauge U as a subject for theme of shoot. Please understand that alot of fotogs here are amateurs and need guidance just like you. It's best if u can supply some photos which gives them an idea of the shoot u want to have, and the fashion direction as well as your confirmed makeup style.

Also, i would like to just remind everyone that CS is not a place to get free makeover pictures done. No doubt yes, we are all learning here and we need models to work on time to time but i don't wish to see photographers losing their standing simply by offering free shoots to every mary, jane and barbara.

Hope this doesn't offend anyone. I'm just a little emotional about seeing fotogs getting exploited here.

well...duhh back

then i suppose i also have to know how they look like, since they're the 1s who'll be taking my pictures

of course, getting to know and understand the subject better is part of the picture taking process... but to ask how the model look like straight away - with no other further questions.... well, that can only give you that much confidence about the intentions of the 'photographer'

i'm NOT a professional model
modelling is by it's nature, capturing beauty. beauty is and will be in the eye of the beholder. don't be naive, you did not ask for a portrait done, you asked for a makeover, of course beauty is important! If you were a paying customer, of course, the photographer will shoot regardless, however, you are asking for a freebie, the photographer may pick and choose until his/hers heart's content.

btw, my advice, whatever it may worth, go with a professional makeover studio. pick a good one, the result will be that much better.

Sadly I have to disagree. Make over studios in Singapore generally turn out cookie cutter products - basic dramatic makeup, some costumes and props which probably get pre selected for the last 20 customers before you, a limited space studio very standard lighting - one product fits all.

Ok if you denote make over with a look that is different from how you normally look. But as a glamour shot - I think not. As an artistic one- again I think not. Given the hours the staff have to work 6 days weeks say 10am to 8 or 9pm - how much artistic juice can you get out of the make up artist and the photog ? No way this can be portraiture - what connect with some one in 15 to 30 min plus shooting time inside ? Hey unless this is the speed date version more likely you get a picture taken of you - should be better than a passport photo but not a portraiture pieces as a real portraiture photog would do. No way one can be too artistic given the time to shot and space and lighting constraints - walked into a couple of make over places - saw their studio area seen what they have by way of lights - can approximate what they can do what what is there.

you get what you paid for. if you are looking for freebies shoot, you get freebie qualities. If you pay S$100...$200 for the makeover, that is the quality you will get, something from a cookie cutter makeover factory ... but at the very least, there will be proper lighting, standard lighting is better than none, some props, make up etc etc.

going with a TCP freebie shoot and expect good quality enlargable prints is a crab shoot, and the odds are not on your end ...

It's true that most makeover company in Singapore are producing cookie factory photos but 90% of the customers that goes for a makeover are just customers. They are not models. Of course we as photographers we would try our best to make them look great.

Makeover Photography is an acquired skill as well. To make someone comfortable and pretty in less than 30mins. I agree that there is not much artistic shot can be done but you will be surprise some of this makeover studios can do and have done.

Make-up artist have their own individual talent. Again i would agree that working 6 days a week and 8 hours each day would not churn out any artistic talent. No choice. Why? Well they still need to pay phone bills, rentals, food and so on.....but when it comes to a model shoot, it's a different story. Why again? Because they get paid much higher. For a model shoot, a make-up artist gets paid about $250-$300 minimum. This is reality. They will still need to balance their skills as if their make-up is not to par, I guess they will not be there as well.

When you have your manager/boss makeover company breathing down your neck, you are expected to shoot and draw(make-up artist) as fast as you can. Remember makeover company rentals are not cheap. If you do not tune yourself to at least 10 customers a day, you will be walking in the street.

One thing you must know is the customers is only paying $58-$88 for those promo thingy. For a model who wants to do a portfolio, the cost would be much much higher, about $400-$500 at least. They will not be turning towards makeover shop unless they pay for it but may not get what they want.

For the price they are paying us will still be more worth it than going to a Makeover company.

This is the reason why some models are looking for TFCD/TFP as they do not want to pay so much or at all. Sometimes if you are lucky, your photos will be viewed by modelling agencies, clientele or advertising agency. Some would be requesting for the photographer whom you shot her.

So it's a 50/50 situation. YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET. Remember this, when a model gets a job it's because of you. They will be earning much much more and their cost would have been covered.

My cents worth.....

Well Said bro!! Well said!!
My sentiments exactly!!!!
Its not easy to be a makeover photographer, coz most of the time you have to see to ur customers requirements. Its quite hard to take artistic shots coz the customers may not like it, furthermore, different customers have different requirements, some want to look slimmer, some want to look younger. I must say the makeover photographer needs to adapt to his customers needs. Whereas for Model shoots, there are more room for creativity and artistic shots. Hence, its quite different aspects to shooting.

This then boils down to what makes a model a model.
Seems like there are alot of models in CS. Many girls are coming here for TFCP/TFP simply for the sake of having photos done and many proclaim themselves as models after doing one photoshoot.

Get your feathers down bro! Do not panic (Hitchhiker guide to the Universe mantra).

Some time for what its worth some of the samples of make over work I have seen may not be worth even the few buck paid.... some may even be worse than the tfcd stuff. There are a small handful of make over places that can produce ok to good work - but as for artistic well that depends on the yardstick used by the customer. If its for a full time working model's book I suspect not at those prices that are found on the price list. So sometimes you do not get what you pay for - or else Case should have ceased to exists eons ago.

A majority of the MO (makeover places) will have great difficulty doing good lighting since they are set up to blast the subject with so much over burn that skin blemishes get burnt off in the capture. Have you actually looked them over from the outside and the inside ? Go try if you have not - its an education experience.

ah yo... Photographers, relax~~~ Looks like war everywhere :sticktong
