konbanwa.. =)

Thanks for ur comments.

do u mount any filter on it? if u do what filter u are using? vignetting sometimes isn't the fault of the lens.

Well, it is a fault of this lens at 17mm f/2.8. Stopping down helps to reduce the vignetting.

nope no filter. Slight vignetting is what i have experienced with a large aperture 2.8-3.5 for indoor shots ( which did not happen with d40x kit lens.) But once u go past 4.0 not a problem.

wah no filter.. =/ i know this lens is cheap.. =/

orh indoor.. so far most of more shots are indoor.. =/

maybe i will stay home and so some testing..

anyway, TS, for some of your shots.. try not to use F11 and above.. will soften the overall picture..

f/3.2 is not one stop from f/2.8. A full list of f/stops is as follows:

f/1, f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16, f/22 and so forth.

wor... understood.. :) so f/3.2 is consider???

anyway.. hws the overall sharpness of my lens?

Try to shoot blue skies at f2.8 at 17mm or thereabouts and u will detect the slight vignetting at the edges.

No way as sharp as nikon primes, but good enough.

good discussion :) nice to read thru

i think patience and an open mind always helps.as far as learning goes

cheers

lol of cos not..

doesn't have to be nikon.. even other brands like canon and so on.. their primes are fantastic too..

Of course. My friends, primes are magical. The way the subject pops, and the background just melts into a buttery bokeh. Mmmmmm...

This was shot on a 35mm prime. Assuming you are a Nikon user, please check out the Nikkor AF 35mm f/2D as a complement for your 17-50. It is simply an amazing piece of glass.

It depends on what applications you intend for the lens. Primes are more specific than zooms in this aspect. For a zoom, you may be able to use it for close up work, portraits and even landscape, but a prime will be more limited in terms of usage.

Think we're going quite OT so I guess maybe starting a thread on prime choosing might be a good idea.

ok...we heard a lot of comments on abt this tammy focus not as fast as nikon, etc. but really. how fast is fast?

So anyway...just to add in a couple more shots to show how fast/slow this tammy can focus in a daily situation.

The situation for this photo goes like this....
children walking past, I hold up my camera and point/adjust shutter/shoot (all within 2secs). So is this fast enuff for you? Well, look and you be the judge. :) For me, this is good enough for its price, as so many have said!

These pictures are not adjusted with PP except with cropping.
My D50 settings is fine JPG, +1 saturation, vivid colors.

I have just got this lens 2nd Hand.. and yes.. it is a great lens for the price. Sharp.. but dun really like the way the the lens hunt on focus.. and then tries to fine tune focus.. thats the reason why it is slow.

Does not happen on my pther nikkon lens... but I am still happy with the buy. ;p

so does that mean that this new version of tammy 17-50mm focus around the same speed as the afs 18-55mm kit lens since i noticed my kit lens also tend to fine tune its focus in low light conditions ?

Cannot comment on whether it is the same as the 18-55mm.. it is definitely slower than my 16-85mm and even the non-AFS 50mm F1.4D... but the IQ and f2.8 does make up for it thought... unless you want to use this for capturing fast moving objects.. which I would suggest you look for something else. It will worked fine for events which I used on the day I got it to cover my friend kid 1st BD.
