Nice series. Other than the port arthur pic mention by giantcanopy thought that this pic also stands out.



But do take note of the light on the left hand side of the photo. Could have been better wifout it.

sorry for providing a different opinion. i can understand your point of view too. i think that slight (and not too abrupt) gradient provides some depth and softness to the picture. although the building does converge vertically, the blocks of uniform red and uniform blue makes me feel that the picture is a little 2D.

Good point raised. Probably without the "light" wld make that photo a good architectural photo while with it makes it a little more "humane". haha

hi, jiven, i have itchy fingers so i'm typing here before ts replies further...

1. vignette can be due to some lens nature in low light situation, such as one of those tamron lens. it can also be added in post processing by darkening it with some gradient/feathering.

2. the focus is locked onto the subject and the camera move at the same (angular) speed with the subject. that is panning. for the other pic, i thought it is on a tripod with longer exposure duration, but by right clikcing, the file says it is half a second, which may be handholdable if sharpness of background is not pertinent.

Did you adjust the color in post processing or is it tamron lense that give such rich colors? I m using D80 too, and am contemplating between getting Tamron 17-50 or sticking with kit lense.

If u got interesting shadow patterns casted on the brick wall or some graffiti would even be more interesting :bsmilie:



I think this shot has alot of potential. Perhaps the tilt can be corrected. If you shoot at wider angle closer up might yield nice perspectives

Will be visiting Aussie probably end this year.
Was it a tour group trip or a self planned free and easy trip ?

the vignette is natural, especially with my this tamron. but then hor,i use photoshop to ÄDD" more vignette to it, to some it is ugly but to mi i think it is unqine n nice. ha. individual..

Ya u r right, i put to S mode, around 1/50sec ( really depands, trial n error) aim at the boy before it arrive, n press shutter when the boy reachs where u wans it to be frame. and also move ur cam in the same direction as the boy's movement. I tried at least 10 times to get this humble shot. practice makes perfect.

hand held, but try to find some support to lean on, 4 my case lamp post.. i put to M mode,
F14, 1/2sec. ISO 100.

ya the penguin, from wat i know most of the place dun allow, but in tas, i am suprise tat we are alot to take pic, without flash of cos. btw im using 50mm F1.8

Tarmon lense indeed giv rich color, but heard sigma lagi power, but of cos wit a price. but then i think compare the price of tamron wit sigma n nikon 17-55mm, i think it is worth it..

btw i also put the color mode on my humble D80 to vivid. play cheat a bit la. haha:sticktong

i'm thinking that the mount cradle and lavender farm photos would surely benefit from a lower perspective - the mount cradle shot just crops off the rock at the edge of the photo mercilessly.. its inclusion, with a lower view, and less sky would be a very classic composition, i'm thinking.

same for the lavender farm shot, too much sky for my liking. climaxing at the top with that lone tree would be great, though, i imagine.

that said, i like the cables and panning shot. the series does seem to be lessened slightly by the fact that there is a perpetual tilt throughout.. perhaps i am anal about such things though. thanks for sharing.

haha....you are a walking talking advt for Tamron 17-50 2.8!! am sure many are gonna be itchy now to go for this lens...a beau...been using it for nearly a year now, love it...real bang for buck lens compared to other 2.8's!

not sure which pic you r talking about. ultimately the lens is going to be the bottleneck and that's the price you pay for its value, but in other situations, it can be due to other things.

No snow then. But it was well into autumn and there are rich colours. Very cold if you go up the mountains and to the West Coast though.

One thing to note. Tasmanians are friendly. Heck, even I feel friendlier there. Must be the climate and pace of life.
