i forgot to ask this question during last Sat meetup...too much heady from the gears and beer

any bro & sis here tape their Leica or rangefinder cams ? If yes, what type of tape you used?
I'm just worried that it will leave with glue residual /sticky etc

Tried to use black electrical tape on my Holga last time but it was too sticky under humid conditions......hope this is not a bo-liao post .....advise appreciate :D

This guy taping his M9 like a Holga to prevent light leaks !!!

I dont think he did it to prevent light leaks eh. But to answer your question, yes, I did tape up the Leica CL that I previously owned. I used gaffer tape. You can buy it from some camera shops at peninsular shopping ctr. I still have a roll in my cupboard too. In my experience, it did not leave any residue at all. But I made sure I changed the tape once every 4 months. Just to be safe. I did it for a few reasons, the first because I was too cheapo and lazy to get an actual casing or camera bag to protect the exterior from further scratches and paint loss. And there are actually no cases that protect the camera's top plate. Most of them are half-cases. Also, I feel that half-cases get in the way. I tried it once, didnt like it cos I couldnt feel the solid-ness of the camera.

oic...it's gaffer tape :) will check it out ....as the texture is fabric-like. thanks !

Thinking of "dressing" your Rukia? Why?
I think Rukia looks good as she is!

i itchy finger, Dr !!!
thinking of masking her ....ninja hahahah

like this?

the racecar M7.

mine, btw.

3M "carbon fibre" tape.

i had absolutely bad experiences with gaffer tape on cameras. yes, you must change them out very frequently, REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE SELLERS TELL YOU.

my gaffer tape peeled the paint off my camera the last time i left it on for a year plus.

and yes they leave residue. removable, but irritating nonetheless. because when you expose your camera to the sun, the sticky portions melts etc and dries up and becomes more sticky and grippy... you get what i mean.

Camera is used for taking pictures... why bother to dress it up?

Sometimes doing more to a camera not only do not improve image quality, but could harm it more...

Got it, 3M "carbon fibre" Thanks, Sequitur

Yes, Chiif, back to shooting now :embrass:

For stealth... not beauty! Haha.

You can consider the McNett gaffers, as they do not use adhesives. Instead, they cling on to one another.

On a personal note, if you tape it up, how will you change your film?
Dont waste time and $ lor. Each roll is lets say $30, every year you need 3 rolls, you can get a roll of Bulk Roll'ed Tri-X with spare change!

Sorry what's the purpose of taping up the camera? "Some" people even sand-paper it.

hmmm... who huh?

Anyway, I only use gaffer tape to tape up the M9 and Leica Logo when I go to Msia with the camera. Other than that, I display them in their full glory.

Do note gaffer tape are not waterproff and remember to change them if they are drenched with sweat or rain.

I just want to tape the name n logo;)

My Leica is the only camera I didn't tape, I found it beautiful as it is.
Whereas my other cameras, were so ugly.
Tape it up, looks nicer.
My cameras are an accessory, not to take photos.

LOL! Reminds me of something chiif told a few of us once when we were at his shop.

"I only sell stuff that will improve your photography".

If there is no gaffer tape in his shop,... which means it will not improve your photography. LOL!
