Hey guys, I'm just curious.. How do you all manage to achieve a dark background despite your subject being very brightly lit? Thanks :)

hi LeGozt,

It is best that you quote your question to a particular person or to a particular picture, there are about 20 pax here... no body will know who you are talking to...

I "kaypo" answer on behalf...
basically, if a flower is lighted up ( sunlight shining on it ), and the background is under shade, and when the difference in light metering is more than 5 F-stops, then the back ground will be black. its that simple.

cheers, hope to see you joining the TangShooters in the near future... ;)

down your EV by using a fast shutter speed, plus fill flash to light up the subject.
this will get you an underexposed background, yet a well metered subject.

cheers.

Actually, another way is to use rear sync flash/or rear curtain flash.

Shots are very good for a newbie. Did the butterflies keep still for a long time? By the way, what time did u take the shots?

Mmm let me try, although i have not been shooting anything but butts for the last one year.

I would crop out the top part as it is distracting to the viewer. The punchy pink colors are quite attractive. Good overall image.
