bro, if the lens is first hand stuff, and there is dust inside, I will not buy that lens.. it is not acceptable.

However, if the CZ lens is "USED" or second hand, and there is dust inside the lens, I WILL BUY IT.... some old birds ever told me that ... when there is a little bit of dust inside the lens, it means that the lens had never been OPENed before, and hence the lens coating is still intact, hence it is still worth a purchase.

On the other hand, if the lens is fungus infested, the shopkeeper will definately send it for cleaning. After the cleaning process, the glass will be clean and clear, but the lens coating will be damanged. The image quality will not be as "creamy" because the lens coating is damaged liao. Color reproduction is not as good as before.

just sharing my knowledge.

thanks for sharing. here's wat happened:

mr naka wanted me to buy 35LF1.4 for him. most shops no stock. i went to man shing. good price (HKD9550) and got stock. when i took out the first copy from the wrapper, already notice got dust specks on the lens but tot nvr mind cos L lense supposed to be weather sealed.

mounted the lense and tooks some shots. looks sharp. when i unmount and check for dust, saw one tiny speck inside the lense. salesman tot was exterior dust n tried to clean it. but its inside. I rejected it and asked for another copy. second copy worse, got at least 5 specks of dust inside. therefore, i rejected both. then I ask for pricing of 100 macro (becos mr naka want to buy oso).

the sales man got fed up and suan me:"All lense got dust one! no need to ask for quote!" I just walked out.

Bad service! :thumbsd:

LOL, interesting....

typical HongKong experience... No $ No talk.. :bsmilie:

normally, for first hand stuff, there should not be any dust inside the lens. This is not acceptable. If there is dust inside, it means that this lens was opened for demo, re-packaged, rejected and then reworked etc..

When canon made these lens, they have done it in a clean room and hence there should not be dust found.

If the lens is like 20years old, yes... I can accept slight dust... ( provided lens coating is still intact ).

ya, another reason I figured out is becos these HK shops are just located next to the main road, causing dust "seepage" into the lense. Most of our frequented outlets are inside shopping malls, which is comparatively "cleaner"...
