My recommended prescription :

1) remove your existing HDD
2) buy a new HDD and install it
3) install OS and rest of the applications.
4) link the old HDD to the laptop again ( either via cross-cable / as secondary drive ).
5) transfer the files over.

done ! ;)

I had verified my Thinkpad X60, the laptop is not down. :bsmilie:
But, my laptop startup is screwed up! Everytime I switch on, besides on the usual start up softwares. There is always a window update keep on repeating downloading and installing this software "Microsoft .NET Framework 2 & 3"

Now, I want it to be stopped! :(....They had been creating havoce to my laptop. They need to be stopped before they crash my system.

I think this software had been corrupted...even repair got issue.

IT bros, here...Please help me! Dinner on me. ;)

use task manager to stop the windows update program after u startup...

Installed 1.1 works well, then come in 2.1 and 3.1...these two creating trouble during update. :think:

Step 1: Download Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
============================================
1. Visit:

2. Please save the file on your Desktop
3. Please double click the "msicuu2.exe" file to install it onto your
computer.

Step 2: Remove .NET Framework 1.1

1. Click "Start" -> "All Programs"->"Windows Installer Clean Up".
2. Please locate and remove .NET Framework software.

After performing these steps, please move on to the following suggestions to
reinstall .NET Framework 1.1 and its updates.

Step 3: Install .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package and its updates

Please download and install the following updates in order.

now must switch to linux, less prone to virus attack :sticktong
