Dengue-fever:Three Deaths Reported Last Week
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,273 cases of dengue fever, including three deaths, were reported between Nov 30 and Dec 6 making it the week with the highest dengue cases reported so far this year.
Most of the cases were recorded in Selangor, totalling 640, followed by Johor (102), Kedah (65), Sarawak (50), Pahang (42), Kelantan (31), Sabah (23) and 13 each in Perlis and Putrajaya.
The Health Ministry's disease control director Datuk Dr Hassan Abdul Rahman, in a statement issued here Tuesday, says this brings to 44,494 cases, including 98 deaths, due to dengue fever reported so far this year.
On last week's increase in dengue cases, he said, it was due to, among others, the rainy weather and the public's lackadaisical attitude in keeping their premises and surrounding free of aedes mosquito breeding grounds.
He said that of the 969 premises inspected by health official, 81 per cent of them were found to contain breeding grounds for aedes mosquitoes, adding that a total of 45 compound notices, involving fine of RM12,650, and 78 notices to clean up, had been issued.
Dr Hassan said a total of 126 Chikungunya cases were also recorded last week, from 128 cases the previous week, bringing the total cases so far this year to 3,706.
No death from the disease was reported, he said, adding that most of the Chikungunya patients were given out-patient treatment, with only 22 per cent of them or 828 cases were hospitalised.
He said the 126 Chikungunya cases were recorded in Kelantan, Selangor, Perak, Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

Dengue-fever: Two More Deaths Reported Last Week
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- Two more deaths reported last week brought the dengue toll to 108 last year, compared with only 98 in the previous year, Health Ministry's Disease Control Division Director, Datuk Dr Hassan Abdul Rahman said today.
He said throughout Dec 21 to 27, a total of 1,269 dengue cases were reported, an increase of merely 0.7 per cent from 1,260 cases recorded the previous week.
Selangor recorded the highest increase from 230 to 653 cases (184 per cent); Kedah, from 30 to 72 cases (140 per cent), and Putrajaya from five to 10 cases (100 per cent).
"Residential areas and shophouses were the areas found to contain most breeding grounds for aedes mosquitoes.
"Inspections also found that the aedes breeding index was higher on idle land, factory, cemetery and dumping sites," he said in a statement today.
Dr Hassan, however, said that the dengue cases had declined in five states last week, with Melaka recording a 36 per cent drop, Sabah 29 per cent, Sarawak 12 per cent and Perak six per cent.
Kuala Lumpur remained with 106 cases, while none was recorded in Labuan.
As for Chikungunya, Dr Hassan said, only 184 cases were recorded last week, bringing the total cases last year to 4,167 cases.
He said 77 per cent of the Chikungunya patients were given out-patient treatment, while 23 per cent of the patients were hospitalised.
The 184 Chikungunya cases were recorded in Kedah (86 cases), Selangor (27), Johor (19), Perak (19), Pahang (12), Kelantan (10), Negeri Sembilan (4), Kuala Lumpur (4), Penang (2) and Putrajaya (1).
