Yes..gavin buttie, u r right abt the little bit underexposed for the picture on the right..
i believe can push the contrast and brightness a little bit more to give the image more impact..

gerald bro..it doesn't matter how we perceived..its how the clients want it that is more important..for instance, client is introducing a resort beach, then I pick #1..but if client is giving warning to endangering of wildlife cause by petrochemical plants, then I pick #2..

wah.. not commercially applicable yet.. but I see your point and agrees. Picture for sale and dun have client for it yet..

Disclaimer : no animal was hurt during the shoot.. its either already dead or it looked remarkably live-like but i am sure its not breathing...
