wow the price keep increasing... purchase locally is 3yr warranty?

that's make sense why it's more expensive else where.. HK is so much cheaper :)

Buy the VC version, but don't buy in SG..

 wah! i just make a call, CP quote me $1020!!!
aiyo... really difficult to decide want to buy tis lens or not...
Is the VC worth me to pay more $$ ? Or just buy the non-VC version?

Maybe can go down and give it a try and see which you prefer? try slow shutter speed and see how's your handholding them and decide if the VC is needed. :)

if your hand is not that steady (like mine) better go for VC

i wanna get one too... but the best price so far is $890 not sure bout warantty thou

has anyone has this Tammy on canon mount yet?
any picture or any personal review?

btw, i know that tamron's focussing slower than canon, and i tried my friends 18-270 today and yes it is slow. But it really problematic to focus when capturing shaking hands

Does 17-50mm has the same problem too? or better?

Actually wats the price difference between a VC and Non-VC copy ? more than 500SGD ?

OK just call MS ...

VC copy - 980
NON VC copy - 630

Worth it or not , base on the depth of your pocket :)

to me for 17-50 range .. VC is not necessary .. just my view :dunno:

For canon people, the-digital-picture just posted a partial review on it (lab test only). The review wasn't very favorable. In conclusion, he said that "Overall, the Tamron 17-50mm non-VC lens is sharper, has less vignetting, has a similar amount of CA and has less barrel distortion on the wide end but more pincushion distortion on the long end. The non-VC 17-50 is a bit smaller and lighter. Obviously the 17-50 VC has the 4-stop-rated (I didn't test this yet) stabilization advantage."

I'll wait for the full review. Maybe his preliminary test result was due to a bad copy lol.

Very useful for slow sync shutter speed shoot without tripod.

Is tamron's VC a proven technology, like canon's IS? Tamron said its VC has the 4-stop rated IS? I've never tried a Tamron lens before... I'm interested in this because my friend said this lens, for nikon mount, has been getting positive reviews. I hope the same goes for canon mount.

yea, heard that the review is quite good.
But i tried my friend's Tamron 18-270mm on Nikon mount and it has slow focusing, is this new lens has the same problem too?

Hi flyzaway,

You can't compare 18-270 with 17-50 :nono:
one is walk around lens and the other is fast lens

yea, it's running :bsmilie:

hahaha running :bsmilie:

ok well, very happy since it is faster (although not as fast as canon's) than the 18-270 that i tried

cant wait to try the lens ;)

Am curious to find out how is the AF speed on the VC version? Any comments from users who upgraded from the non-VC version? I understand the AF for the non-VC version is kinda dodgy.

Am considering between the 17-50 VC and the Sigma 24-70 HSM when I go to HK, but as I'm aware, they do not allow for testing unless you're definitely buying the lens.

Thanks

VC of the Tamron 17-50 I feel is not as good as the Canon IS, but nonetheless its good. I was able to take a few 1sec handheld shots with minimal shake.

I bought my copy at Bally Photo at 950SGD net. AF speed is good, but speed goes down when you're on an unsteady platform, in my case a bouncy taxi. IQ is damn good, money well spent :)

Hi guys,

Any of you interested to buy the VC lens in jb? I'm trying to look for more pple to buy together so that we can ask for a better price. I personally know this shop in Angsana as my friend and I had bought a Nikon D90 and Canon 50D from there. He quote me RM1900 for the Tamron 17-50 VC.

As for tax issues mentioned by other member, dun have to worry much becoz when I bought the D90, I kept the box at the shop. I put my lens n camera in the bag, the custom officer will assume that its for your own personal use. They wun even bother to stop or check you.

I thought of trading my nikon 18-105 (orginal price bought $380 10mths warranty left) for this tamron 17-50 VC.

The shop willing to take in at around RM730. wat do you think guys?
