Hi, may i know whats your in camera setting for sharpness and contrast.... these look like they have been sharpened.....

Think it would be easier to judge sharpness by posting untouched shots?

that is very good performance!
thanks mace1980
;)

Wow.. thanks for the pics! Looks good enough for me considering it a 3rd party and the pricing.

Have you tried shooting at 300mm (435mm on 40D?). Thanks!

Regards
James

Tamron A20 AF28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC LD Aspherical [IF] MACRO get reviewed on PopPhoto.com

Read Review Here

This review was done on a Canon mount.
Nikon users will have to wait, I believe that the good people at Tamron are working on its built-in motor.

A comment made was "One disappointment: Autofocusing on both test bodies was noisy and slow."
I hope the Nikon mount will fare better, since there is going to be built-in motor, but might be more expensive than the Canon mount version.
Tamron A20 Canon mount US$600 (street R.P.) i.e S$900
If getting this as a walkabout/travel lens, quite hard to justify against the Nikon 18-200vr which is just slightly more expensive, while a similar specification Sigma 18-200os is only slightly cheaper. Not a direct comparison since Tamron A20 is a Di (suitable for both full-frame and APS-C SLR/DSLR), while the Nikon and Sigma are (only for APS-C DSLR).

Another comment "maximum magnification ratios ranged from 1:10.36 at 28mm to 1:2.33 at 300mm -- significantly more power than Tamron's 1:3 published spec"
I really like this!

Trying to decide between the Tamron 28-300mm VC and Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM. As I'm a newbie, would appreciate if someone can summarise pros and cons of the two lenses. Many thks.

I have compiled a series reviews from the net and summarized them.
If you are interested in this lens as well, you should read it HERE.

Compiled reviews include links to full resolution lens tests at all focal length, apertures, full-frame and APS-C as well as field test samples.
Good to get me sold! Envy the Canon users who can enjoy it while Nikonians will still have to sit on the bench.

I love Tammy
doesn't sound too right....hmmm

Bought this lens today at TK Foto at $920 incl GST.
Didn't bring my camera but James lend me the 40D to try the lens.
Decent IQ on par with the 17-50mm.
VC(Vibration Compensation) a bit wobbly when looking thru the viewfinder.
An old Canon IS technology,I supposed.
Not a big issue for me bcos it works even on low light
AF of course slower than the USM.
It's only a test so I cannot give a detail review at the moment.
Will try and shoot more this weekend to justify the positive reviews abt this lens.
For the focal range as a walkaround lens,I'm satisfied with the purchase.:)

hi MRH, congrats on your new purchase!
show us something good handheld with VC!

Thanks,bro.;)
Your thread actually lead me to this irresistable purchase of this decent lens.
Was asking around but not much response from CSer's maybe bcos it's new model.
I'll try to post pics here after my outdoor shoot.Must learn how to post pics leh!:embrass:
Another gd thing is can be used for FF cam.So it's not strictly EF-S.
Nice weekend,my friend.:)

:bsmilie: i oso same same. silly me, post a thread under canon. heh..
hope to learn more about this baby before i jump in.

i guess resale value would be low and slow, so gotta think carefully.

Hi mace1980, may I know if your pics have been sharpened by photoshop?

hi, anyone done or know any comparison between this and Sigma 18-200 DC OS ?
i have the sigma
abd if this tamron hve better IQ
i'll gladly trade my Sifma with this and get and UWA for the wide end :P
thx.

When is nikon mount coming?

Anyone know where else is selling this lens?

I tried it out at John3:16 today... $960... Nice and sharp, with a little blurry at 300mm and some CA at both ends.. Maybe the one copy I tested (not intending to buy yet so dun wanna trouble them too much) had some problems... Noticed also that the zooming had a bit of resistence between 220 - 300mm... Again could be a QC problem.

Is TK still selling at 920?

Anywhere else cheaper?
