I use Sigma 105 :thumbsup: before and now using Sigma 150mm:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:, having smaller FOV, it give me a better composition, cleaning background.

well I cant help u to choose between Tamron, Tokina and Sigma, cuz Tamron and Tokina doesnt have 4/3 mount.

Pro on 150mm F2.8 Macro over 105mm F2.8
1) longer working distance,
2) really silence motor with distance limiter
3) Tripod collar (very useful on either tripod or monopod)
4) smaller FOV for cleaner background

2 cons for me,
1) Heavy
2) more ex over 105(cant be cheaper right?)

Lens coating peel never an issue for me, yes it peel, but well, tool is a tool.

So what happen when it peel? How long will it take to start peeling? And what are the impact. I am very concern as I just bought one :bheart:

wah..
thanks for ur comparison..
but sigma 150 too ex le lei..
what is the current price for it?
but my shot normally is on flower only..
tat's y buying 150 a bit wasted lei..

Really cant tell when will it start peeling... Actually EX coating is much better the usual.

My 105mm didnt peel even for 1 year usage. (well I sold it)

Some peeling at 150mm F2.8 tripod collar when I put on Arcaswiss plate(with stopper kind).

conclusion, peeling issue not that bad on EX version with good handling.

BTW, current brand new 150mm shd be ard $1100-1200 based on 4/3 mount.

and if you like macro, eventually you may goes to insect and 150mm will definitely come in useful.

btw for other mount I think Tamron 180mm F3.5 is a good buy.

You can check the price in the price guide section... but I bought it at 3000HKD last week. Exchange rate was 5.3-5.4

Thanks thanks, I am still very new to marco and is still learning the handling. I would love to have a 150mm or 180mm in the future provided my vitamin M keeps coming :bsmilie:
but the problem with such long range is the weight and Tripod is definitely needed which is a minus for me...
But if peeling is really a problem for Sigma or Tamron then I will preferred to get a Nikkor next time round...

Handling wise, I will say with tripod is recommended. however slower in deploy but more precise.

Handheld is difficult... weight will kill you. (my hand shake very badly usually)

Monopod fast but not that precise.

I second that! :)

no la..
even photozone.de also show that tamron is sharper..
look closely to the tree in the center..
but what is good abt sigma 105 is that e built and e well controlled CA..
both tamron 90 n nikkor 105 has quite a high CA readings..

Tamron 90mm and Sigma 150mm :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

After conversion it's about SG$560, you are referring to the Sigma 105 and not 150mm right?

At both 90mm and 105mm without addons like extension tubes or close up filters they are good for taking flowers and still objects. You may still capture insects but the acceptance rate may be lower.

They are good for potraits too though AF may not be as fast as a dedicated potrait lens. Easily throws background out of focus and brings attention to subjects. AF is noisy and slow for the 90mm at times, have to listen to the motor and watch the view finder for AF lock confirmation. Not sure about the 105mm. Still have to work with ext flash if you cam cannot do decent high ISO shots under low light conditions.

hi liarliar..
so u mean tamron 90mm cant get decent photos under low light condition??
insects i think e most i will shoot is dragonfly at the moment..
:D:D

sigma 105 is indeed sharp but in many review from mag they review that tamron is more sharper than sigma 105mm..

Nope. In low light if you use it for potraits or other stills may hunt a little. Especially on white / black / grey surfaces. CA is also noticeable in high contrast area. You can still get sharp photos of insect macros although at times you will need to use flash.

For those on a budget the Tamron 90mm Macro is the way to go. The new production models i heard all has a af build in motor so if your cam body do not support auto-focusing this lens can be used. It serves as a macro and potrait lens. Otherwise can get the Sigma or nikon 105mm. Money saved can be used to purchase close up filters, extension tube and so on.

Yup, I am referring to 105mm. But be very careful when buying lens at HK. The same shop that I bought the len he used his thumb to rub on my 18-105mm kit lens (Rear end) while changing lens and say that this Nikkor lens has flare issue and ask me to trade in at $300HKD for another Sigma lens!
