yeah this Dec =) hand itchy been eyeing this lens for sometime now 70300G saw someone posting shoot out of tammy USD and was surprise of the result (Dyxum) it seem the tammy USD is at par with 70-400... dunno if the reviewer 70-300G is a lemon but looks bad actually here the reviewer link from Dyxum (http://www.alphatraveller.com/2011/08/tamron-sp-70-300-usd-vs-sony-70-300-g.html)

BTW back to the topic later mods scold us for OT

Bro schizo when you're at CP make sure you try the lens (90mm) before buying also try to move the lens when mounted see if you will lose the F display last time my 1750tamron when i zoom in and out this is where the f display will disappear since the lens you'll be trying out is prime fixed lens not sure how you would simulate it maybe you could twist it a bit clockwise ad counter clockwise as if you mount and unmounting the lens see if the F will stay.. also mount it and unmount it couple of times. =)

Thanks for the pointer albertri. Sure, i plan to do all that also cos i definitely dun wanna purchase then go back and face problems with the lens. I'll try my best to try it out and get any problems (if any) to surface out early. Thanks again! Uve been a great help.

Hi,

For those interested and dun already know, just wanna share something.

I went to CP Peninsula and tried out the lenses they have there. This guy Jason was very friendly and never really rushed me so I get to actually try and figure out what was wrong. The first lens I tried still gave the same error. I tried a few times and noticed that once it tries to AF at the longest end (not sure if thats the term to use. Simply means when it extends to the fullest), it will jerk out slightly and thats where it will prompt the F-- error and 'lens connection error'. On and off will reset it back. So meaning if u use within the long limit, it will be alright. He tried it on his A55 too and also faced the same problem. However, the other set was ok. I tried many times getting the focusing out of range but it justs extends and retracts accordingly. So i bought that one. I also noticed the one that I have has a blue lining near the tip of the lens. The others that i've tried and failed doesn't. So not really sure what that means.

Whatever it is, i got mine and am very happy abt it. Gg out now to hunt for some micro subjects. ;)

Cheers all!

Yeah normally the 90mm has blue lining near the tip of the lens :-) maybe that's newer batch? And the old one doesn't have the lining? Notbso sure about it though anyways as long it doesn't have any problem should be ok :-)

"blue lining" referring to the blue ring that is visible when you pull the ring back to switch it to manual focus?

yeah that's the thing with macro need a new setup for flash and need to hunt around small things. lolz next time will see how. but one good thing with this focal lenght 90mm or 100mm you could use them for portraits =) 90mm f2.8 would be good portrait lens also. I have the cheap Sony 85 f2.8 and i like that lens maybe i'll seel that and get the Tamron lolz but not so soon I just broke my piggy bank for A77 and tamron 70300 USD ;-(

Frankly speaking..There was a moment i thought..how nice if our Sony Carl zeiss lens were to have those Blue hot rings on the lenses..(just like Canon red..and Nikon Gold rings).. Gear performance is important but for me..design and look can be equally impt too..well thats just me. And i almost wanted to board their ship before..but in the end i choose Sony. Sorry for OT post. Just feel this way everytime i saw the Tamron macro lens.. lol.

Ya man. Loving the bokeh and IQ. Very nice. But for portrait still prefer my cheapo 50mm 1.8. Well, at least there's options. Hehe.

Ya bro, spent so much already. I think will probably take u another what, 1 mth to start splurging again? Heheh
