is the lens nosier than the 18-70?? and slower that it in focusing?

Thx for the comment. The weather was rather subdued today, so it was good test the performance when light condition is mild. I find the focusing to be very fast. I think it is a reasonably good lens that is specially built for digital camera.

pictures are too soft even at f10+.

18mm is cannot be the real wide angle. at least 12mm - 15mm

Hi guys. I am still pondering whether to get Sigma 18-200 or Tamron 18-200. From this site http://www.ygdragon.net/index.php?page=photo/cameraprice.htm, Sigma is cheaper than Tamron. A jap site compared Sigma and Tamron 18-200 and the Sigma version perform better. Hmm.. anyone own the Sigma 18-200? Getting it as a handy n convenient travel lens, "one lens rules them all". :bsmilie: (well, not really rules them all but cover a comfortable range at a great price :sweat: )

mmm....you find that AFS 18-70 noisy? (if you are talking about D70 kit lens)

You must be referring to the focusing noise right? The 18-70 has is very quiet in focusing and has AF-S, noise wise I'm not sure but it is definitely faster.

Images should be rather acceptable if you're not too fussy I believe. The range is too vast to be constant in quality. Once stepped down, it should behave pretty well.

I don't think it's soft at all. Here are some sample pics taken with Tamron 18-200:

Fyi, all shots are handheld and no-post processing other than resizing of pictures.

I also have 50mm f1.8 II, 70-200 4L, Tamron 17-35 f2.8-4, and Tamron 28-75 f2.8. I can say that image quality of Tamron 18-200 lens is more than acceptable.
On the wide end, I cannot see any difference in terms of image quality if compared with Tamron 17-35 pictures.

not bad, so far so good ...

soft? depends on which lens you are comparing to,
my existing lens are D70 kit len and the nikon 70-300mm,
so tamron's quality seems same when compared, if not better ...

price is 6XX ++ at alan photo, can't rem exact ...
ard $40-50 more then sigma,

but got alot of ppl (friends + shopowner) rec me Tamron over Sigma
all giving the following reasons
- tamron's color reproduction is closer to nikor lens
where as sigma is leaning towards cannon ... so ... :dunno:

my 2 cents ...
