at 28mm on 1.5x crop factor = 42mm, it's not really wide. But depend on your shooting style, you may still need a wider lens for group shots.

I have the 17-50mm but I find it difficult to capture closeup portrait shots with this lens. Hope one day Tamron would come out with a 17-70mm f/2.8.

The Tamron 17-50 is out of stock in Alan Photo (both SLS and Funan), Cathay, Lord's, TK.

So those looking for this lens can save the trouble and give these shops a miss.

Anyone has any experience using Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 on a crop body for covering weddings?

had used this lens for several weddings...good versatile lens...but you definitely need a wider lens for group photos...especially these days all the HDB flats are quite small..

I am complementing with either my Nikkor 20mm or the Tokina 12-24mm.

I have the Canon 10-22mm. I find that there is a significant overlapping of focal length of this lens with my Tamron 17-50mm. That's the reason why I am contemplating on getting the 28-75mm, which is going to help me cover a wider range IMO.

Hi all

What happens if my 17-50 is not sharp at f2.8? I bought it few months ago from funan centre and managed to test it only few days ago. i was green then and the shop managed to convince me to buy the lens after they tested for me. i shd read up more articles on how to test lens by myself.

Do i send it to the service centre?

Please help as this is my first lens after my kit lens.:cry:

I think a question is ask yourself is what range you shoot most in. I personally have a 17-50 (which translates to about 26-75mm), so it gives some wides, and into the normal range, and I shoot mostly in this. I have a 12-24mm, but do not use as often, and I'll pull it out for more specific uses. A 12-24, or 10-22 is hard to keep on the cam all the time. A 28-75 (which translates to about 42-115) lacks a bit on the wide range, so this lens becomes more of a "portrait" lens. I owned a 35-70 lens, which was great as a portrait lens, but lacked the wide end, so I had to keep changing lenses. So which lens would you take if you have to take only one out?

hmm i tot the tamron 17-50 is a lens for 1.5 crop factor and above camera?

Hi, thanks for the advice. I end up getting the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L, which gives me an extra 4mm on the wide side. ;)

THat is not the issue now. Yes the lens is intended for 1.5 and 1.6x crop cameras, but we're debating as to whether a 17-50 would be more functional to a 28-75, if you could only take one lens.

Just a question, how do you guys test whether the lens is a sharp copy from the shop?

How to test think there is some write-up by fellow CSers here. Thing is what do the shop salesman do with lens that is rejected by people???

:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie: preying for the next victim to come along.

For those who are interested, I just swang by OP and I spotted 4 Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 boxes (Old version). Not sure if they're the Tamron lenses or just empty boxes made to fill space though.

Nope. I didn't see the red "New Built-in Motor" sticker on the boxes.

just checking with those who has the tamron 17-50mm f2.8 with motor. Doesnt the motor sounded a little weird? or it is the standard thing to expect from a tamron?
