Tamron 17-50 or 28-75?

If you're using FF get 28-75, if you're using 1.5x sensor use 17-50. 17-50 if you x 1.5 it will actually be 25.5-75. whereas if you take the 24-75 and x 1.5 you might not get a wide enough angle when you're indoors and walk about. this might frustrate you.

Hi,

I think most important would be what works for you.

I have the 17-50mm. It works well for me for walkabouts etc. I actually bought this for an impending trip overseas and had been using the 18-135 Nikon prior, but wanted a f/2.8. My setup is 11-16, 17-50 and 70-300. The 50-70 range is covered via stepping forward mostly.

I picked the 17-50 cos I found 28mm still not wide enough for my liking. But perhaps that is cos I have been using 18-135 range previously. Habitual ? The other thought I had was confined spaces wont allow you to step back. Someone prior mentioned group shot without heads/legs. I'd tend to agree. I find that stepping forward to help "zoom" is more often possible (Unless you are already at the edge of a cliff) than stepping back (if you're up against a wall already for example).

Anyways, that's just wat I am used to.... Looking at the info on this thread, you won't be too far off with either. And, bonus is, if you picked one and don't like it as much, seems that there're potential buyers out there !

Happy buying ! ;)

was also stuck in this dilemma. but i decided to go for 17-50 2.8. its a much cheaper version of the canon 17-55 2.8.

the tamron performs pretty good for that price, and i think for scenery/landscapes etc, a wider angle is always awesome.

is focusing a common issue wif these 2 lenses? i've tried a few of both lenses. i find the pics to be quite soft at 75mm/2.8 n 50mm/2.8. the piics look slightly sharper when i manually focused.

I will choose Tamron 17-50mm for it is an affordable sharp lens. But be careful because most of this lens have some problem with its focus ( back focus)
