Hiee,

As wide angle shots are meant to compact image details for wide view shots then slight out of focus may at time be "hidden" and forgiven. However, the same wide angle with wide apertures (e.g f2.8) used for close focus subject, some problem like back focus may be present - probably due to depth of field resuting from wide apertures.

I understand and agree with your thinking. But it seems mine is back focusing even at small apertures for landscape use. 400D viewfinder very small hard to manual and get best focus. Hope yours comes back with improvement rongren. Haha if it does i'll send mine in too.

But in general when i print 4R its unnoticeable. On my 19" screen its not "tack" sharp. Gonna start printing A4's soon hope those come out ok.

well u camera body plays a part also i guess... My copy is working perfectly with no apparent backfocus issues. Even when wide open, i can print to S12R and the pic is still very sharp (using 300D).

Thanx to all who have contributed to this thread!!Do feel free to keep the response coming. :) As far as I can see..there seems to be no fixed "pattern" to the country of origin vs the shop bought from. eg.. MSC and AP SLS both sold Assembled in China and Made in Japan sets before... Maybe depends on the time period bought also I guess..as it stands right now from the poll results, 20 copies are Made in Japan (54%) while 17 copies (46%) are Assembled in China

Not many fellow CSers reported issues with their lens.. furthermore both groups of users have reported sharp lenses..so maybe there really isn't much variability between the two... I leave it to you draw your own conclusion.

I think mine should be an isolated case ... A pity I only had this wide angle lens, which I had just purchased the day before departing, when I went on an overseas trip.. Anyway just an update, I have gotten my lens back from the Tithes, the local Tamron agent. They sent it back to Japan to have it serviced, hence it took about 3 weeks. Focusing and sharpness is good now!! :)

Whoa, I didn't take note of where my Tamron 17-50 came from when I bought it. Though it looks like a sharp copy to me (with the help of bro eow). :embrass:
