Hi guys,

Trying to locate a tabletop tripod for the Xpan. Has anyone has experience with a solid tabletop tripod? I am tinking of getting the manfrotto tabletop legs and maybe a small ballhead that can accept arca swiss plates as I have a wimberly p5 for the xpan.

Any suggestions or recommendations? :)

Cheers!

think none of them have the strength to hold it, esp with those tiny legs.

can try Manfrotto's. got mine from Ruby Photo months ago. not sure stil hav anot, but u'll need a better ballhead 2 take d load.

another way is to use a bean bag.

Thanks guys!

Yup have considered a bean bag but a tripod seems more versatile. Probably see how it goes. :)

The xpan and the 45mm is only 1kg. The Manfrotto legs seem to be able to take up to 2kg but if I were to use it with a small ballhead, I wonder if it can take the load. Probably drop by CP for a look.

what is a xpan? :dunno:

Maybe you can consider getting one of those cheapo generic tripods. Without entending their legs, they are sturdy/stable enough for a D70 at least.

oops :embrass: ... then better ignore my cheapo tripod suggestion.

i personally use the leica table top tripod which is hard to come by but if u do see it on ebay, normally goes for about 50USD or so. Alternatively, i've used pedco ultrapod in the past before i lost mine. Its light and surprisingly can support up to a 20D without much problems. I've used both for the xpan so u should be fine.

Thanks again guys!

I finally settled on the ultrapod 2 with a wimberly clamp. Tested it last night and its light despite the clamp and most importantly pretty stable. Works very nicely as a chest pod as well for handheld shots. :)

Cheers!

Yo Terence,

I already took some pics last nite. Will try and post it tonite if I get home early. Its really juz a ultrapod 2 with the wimberly clamp. For the Xpan, I added some padding to the wimberly lens plate before mounting it on the tripod mount. I tink its the P-20 plate. With that, the xpan can be centralised and its weight can be distributed more evenly across the ultrapod.

Cheers!

You mounted a QR clamp on the ultrapod? Not too heavy for the ultrapod. I suppose that's the best solution considering the displaced position of the tripod mount on the base of the Xpan. But somehow adding the clamp to the ultrapod makes it seem bigger and heavier. I quite like the compact size (when folded) and clean lines of the ultrapod.

No need too much padding. Just a bit of gaffer tape should work. I do that on the base of all my bodies.
