Switching to Canon

ts, i am also curious why u want to jump to canon 7d and not nikon d300 or d700?

but if it makes you happy and since u have the budget, go ahead already, why ask? hobby is suppose to make us happy. dont stress over it.

Hi CSnappers!

I am currently a Nikon D90 user. I am thinking of converting to Canon EOS 7D. I have a few questions to ask:

- Does John316 Shop at Funan offers reasonable price as compared to others?
- My budget is about $3k (Camera body and Lens) but I do not want the kit lens. Any lens to recommend that I can use for Event photography?
- Any other shops to recommend that offers competitive prices?

Thanks in advance.

for the questions you're asking, i seriously think u should consider getting Nikkor pro lens to add to your collection.

might as well save alittle more and get the nikon D700.

Thanks for all the feedbacks. I will take into consideration all your inputs.

Here's my answer to some of the replies why I am converting to Canon:

One of my reasons for converting to Canon is because Canon's prices tend to be cheaper then Nikon's. I can actually get a full frame DSLR and with better specs. The Canon lenses, overall, are cheaper than Nikon's.

However, I am still in the midst of doing more research before jumping into Canon, at least if I am able to sell my D90. Otherwise, I will just carry on with Nikon for the time-being.

I appreciate all feedbacks and will take into consideration every input you have given me.

;)

Canon prices are not necessarily always cheaper than nikon. The only reason why most are cheaper is because canon's line up are mostly older than nikon's. As the line up gets refreshed over the years, the prices wld no doubt be more expensive. Newer lenses will definitely cost more. Case example: my 15-85 costs MORE than its nikon equivelant simply because it was introduced fairly recently.

And the newer and more expensive nikon lenses (except telephotos) also happens to be BETTER than its canon equivelant. Namely 14-24 and 24-70.

For around the same money i can get a 5d mark ii or d700. And despite being better spec'd, the 5d mark ii is not necessarily the better camera.

Would advice you to do more research before switching. :)

agree with that.

i am a canon user, however, i shall not deny that when i first held the d700 i was impressed with its ergonomics and built quality - its better than my 5Dmk2, if it helps :) and i've used a 7D before. the nikon 14-24 is sharper and better than the canon 16-35 however i'm not sure about the price differences... nikon's CLS flash system is also more advanced than canon's as well and can hit higher max sync speeds, so that makes good for killing ambient and light control for outdoor shoots if you are a frequent user of flashes/strobes.. AF for FF bodies wise, nikon d700 beats 5dmk2 flat.

however, its really a matter of tastes and preferences... some people would wanna hop over to canon for amazing primes like the 35/85/135L :)
(a favourite among many wedding pros on canon)

i guess one big triumph for canon users over nikon is the HD video, which D700 doesn't have. so you gotta weigh your pros and cons.. whats important to you, and whats not?

best of luck, make a good decision

I sincerely hope you don't think the 7D is a full-frame camera.
