from the polling results, can see more ppl prefer D200 over D80, but not overwhelming ... i think it shows the reality on the differences between the two models.

anyway, i think i will buy D200, as i can use my 4G CF cards and i like D200 build. looks more professional ... haha~~~

but one thing don't understand is D80's 2 channel processing and D200's 4 channel processing. only processing speed difference?
get the D200 with MB200... i just upgraded mine from D70 to D200 too... :)

for the D200 vertical grip:

as i am using D70, no vertical grip. I tried the vertical grip feeling on a D80 in a shop. it totally pissed me off, and i decide not to buy: when holding horizontal, feel very strange as difficult to hold the lense; when holding vertical, except a bit more stable ( only a bit ), no much feeling. I think it is bcoz for D80/D200, the vertical grip is external one. if D2X/D2Hs, maybe feel different.

MB200, vertical grip? as stated in my last comments, no point to me ...

Not really, you can always use the "P" mode function to shoot.

However I do miss some mode in the menu for the D200 over my previous D70s such as the "Landscape", "Sharper" & "Direct print" mode in the menu  . Those who use D70/D70s should know what I mean.

There is still Direct printing... I did printing from the D200 straight to a portable printer before. ;)

As for Landscape, just use the A mode and change to a smaller aperture and note the ISO speed.

From NIkon SG :

4-channel output allows the D200 to adopt the advanced image-processing engine of the D2x that combines color-independent preconditioning prior to A/D conversion with advanced digital image processing algorithms to deliver fine color gradations with satisfyingly smooth, consistent transitions.

Is it heavier with the vertical grip or not much diff.Or is it holding position are much more better?

the weight of the MB200 is approx 230g, together with the D200 at 830g with 2 EL-EN3e (can use one EL-EN3e also) at 80g each... which means, its already >1.2kg without lens (additional 350g if u have attached the SB800)... spoken to someone using a d200 (tried with my MB200) with 70-200mm VR f2.8, the whole feel he got was its more balanced compared to just d200 alone.

in general, the only thing i dun like abt the mb 200 is that my thumb can't reach the multi selector if i m using it in "portrait" mode... the thing i like abt it is, its AA size compatible! Unlike D70, when u encounter battery flat, u can still purchase and use CR2 battery using the MS-D70 battery pack. for D200 alone, i think got no solution other than bringing along the battery charger and start charging the EL-EN3e when ur battery is flat. with the MB200, u can purchase AA size battery easily... no fear of battery issue.

Well said!!

no one mentioned Fuji S5pro ? whats the expected price ? much more than D200 ?

Anyone knows the latest price for MB-D200 and EN-EL3e battries?

For me the BIG viewfinder on D80 itself was a good enough reason to upgrade. Helps a lot with framing.
The new sensor/image processor on D80 also give me better results out of camera than D70.
There is this extra crisp and vivid quality to D80 images(compared to D70) that I love. The smaller size takes some getting used to, but you appreciate it afterwards.

Eh.... at 6.1 megapixels, it's designed and driven at those who needs the extra details. It's a double sensor design. 1 set of 6.1 for normal colours, the second set of 6.1 sensors for highlights.

Go read it up... and it's based on the D200 chasis.

how much is the D200 going at?

but didn't buy MBD200, just don't like it ... i more like to buy 2 more EL3e battery, :D:D:D

too much technical information can be confusing.
d80 and d200 have always been in contention.
but hold the two cameras on your palm and feel it.
After that, go with your emotions.

i am using a d200 (switched from olympus 2 years ago).
