I made 3 visits in this place to try and make a good sunrise photo. These were taken at the Lower Seletar Reservoir in 3 different mornings. C&C are definitely welcome!

1st attempt:

2nd attempt:

3rd attempt:

Of the three the last definetly has the most going for it. The first two seem overly saturated, the horizons are off and (in no2) the feature item is smack in the middle of the frame. I realise you were going for the reflection but it doesn't really add anything to the images, the reflections just repeat what we already have, a gary sky.

The third image adds foreground interest which also acts as a lead in to the boat, and creates interesting diagonals. There is a little too much sky, by cropping out about half of the current sky, you would lose the the boring blue bit, keep the interesting pastel colors and make the most of the horizon (placing it in a third line).

thanks for sharing.

Hobby: Thanks so much for the very constructive criticism. I agree with you, I'm also leaning towards the 3rd one. A lot of people love the 2nd one because of the colors and reflection, the the 3rd is almost spot on in terms of composition and color control, i think. And I agree with your suggestion of cropping half of the sky to lose the boring blue bit.

Thanks again!

hi.. love the location...
do u mind share where and how can i reach there?

Any post processing?
I see too much of blue in all 3.
#3 would be better, i think, if its at low angle - ie on the jetty itself and taken portrait.
Please do visit my flickr and lets compare notes :)

It's very near Khatib MRT station. If you're coming from Yio Chu Kang, on the way to Khatib you should see the reservoir outside :) When you reach the Khatib station, cross Yishun Ave2, turn right and go straight ahead...

Yup, there was PP to highlight the colors. The blue hue was from the WB option I made from the camera. Shot #3 was double processed to equalize the exposure between the sky and the waters.

Thanks for the suggestion for #3. I actually have a portrait version of the pix, but not at low angle as i wanted to highlight the jetty. But I think your suggestion will work. I'll visit your flickr and add you as a contact :)

Here is what I will do...

Forget about the 1st picture. The second picture is a much better attempt but I will crop off the leaves on the left and try the align the horizon at the center of the picture since the reflection is what you wanted to get. To make second picture more outstanding, use a GND filter and bracket your exposes, then do a HDR imaging and see how it turns out but otherwise just fill in more contrast in the foreground to make it stand out.

I personally like your last picture overall. Simple and nice. It reminds me of the recent picture I took at Changi http://www.photosmoment.com/p386029300/?photo=h2E10FBFB#772865019

i think this one will be good if you can zoom in closer and retain the original color and show the boat reflection. :)

this pic is almost there.

Here's another shot I took with my 50mm on my 2nd attempt:

Thanks for the suggestion, Jet. Yup, the last picture is also my favorite one of the 3, contrary to popular opinion.
