It depends on your perspective of "sky"... Frankly, 70-200 maybe steep... but to a number (not me hor), it's actually not that sky-high... 300/2.8 VRII is still attainable to a few. 400/500/600 are actually the sky-high. Then again, knowing that certain small musical instruments actually costs roughly a 200-400/4 VRII... I'm bordering to actually calling the cost of 70-200 "peanuts"... :bsmilie: *ducks*
Weight wise...initially you'll feel the weight. The more you shoot with it, the easier it becomes. I'm quite surprised that my left arm has not even developed a "bulge"... goes to show that it's really not that heavy yet. Now, 200/2, 300/2.8 onwards... those are indeed heavy - and I'm very sure worth their weight in gold...
