wah lau... no need to protect the ballhead until like that la... It's not made of precious metal
So far when I pack the tripod into bag, I even tilt the ballhead to the side, effectively exposing a lot of the ball, but so far not even a scratch

That's provided you dont carry the ballhead on the tripod exposed like do... Also, not necessary to protect just the ballhead...but the knobs and other stuff also..
