Wanted to show the contrast between the peaceful water and the hard uneven rocks.

Thanks for being willing to help.
Question 1 - I wanted more misty rocks but guess the water in the reservoir is too still to achieve that effect?
But then again, MGohzxc manage to capture some mist on her rocks on her picture #2. How is that possible?
Question 2 - When i first arrive around 630, with my ND8 on, i cant auto focus due to the low lighting available. What i did was to
auto focus without the ND8 first,
change to manual focus,
screw the ND8 on,
hit the shutter.
Is this the correct way?
Hello Uncle Scubagolfer,Aiyo, chilicrab1, better next time dont attend in sleeveless T, especially when a certain soft soft ball around ......

Yah u zao so fast... Lightly Not entirely flat today bro:devil:
Wanted to show the contrast between the peaceful water and the hard uneven rocks. And originally wanted to show some misty effect with the ND8 but guess my exposure not long enough.
Because she shot much earlier in the day before the sun came up and managed a slower shutter speed. Just by putting on an ND8 does not guarantee the misty effect, remember the purpose is to lower shutter speed sufficiently to blur the water but you shot much later in the day so the ND8 was insufficient to lower your shutter speed enough.![]()

Hi Sqroot,
My first two pictures were taken at about 6.15am and exposure is 45 sec F16 without any filter. #3 & #4 is with my 6 stop ND filter. all at ISO100..![]()
Sorry, was out for lunch, just came back ;p
#1, the purpose of ND filter is to allow slower shutter speed by reducing the amount of light coming in. One of the effects of shooting with slow shutter speed is the misty effect that you mentioned. But it doesn't mean that using an ND filter the user will definitely achieve the effect.
As bro Ghaz has mentioned, your picture doesn't get the effect because the shutter speed is still too fast even with an ND8 (ND8 is 3 stop reduction). Given the same condition, you can try with either a smaller aperture or by using a ND filter with more stop reduction. Thus, your shutter speed can be slower.
#2, what i do is normally is first to remove my filter, compose and manual focus, meter the scene to figure out the shutter speed required (say x sec), put on the ND filter and multiply the f-stop with the x. So in your case, say x is 1 sec, that means with your ND8, you need to use a shutter speed of 8 sec.
Hope this helps![]()

As what adrianno has pointed out, u need a stronger ND to prolong the shutter duration at the point if take as more ambient light kicks in.. This is too much of a abstract rather than landscape as the composition is flat n lack depth... Note shd involve sme bg element to protray connection with place of shoot...![]()

Arlo MGohzxc XMM. I didn't see you till much later during the shoot.
Anyway, you probably missed me saying this to the newbies. That it is advisable to find an angle where the roof of the pavilion is clear from the tree line in the background. So as to get some good separation.
That is why you see that whole lump of people all fighting for space there. That is angle where you can clear the roof from the trees... Like this...
