i think we will always see newbies barging in to ask for help, either not showing they have done what they can do first, or really not knowing where to start.
To be fair to some newbies, they dunno know a thing about cameras and forum practices, and they heard of this website that they can dump a question and hope the rest churns out. it may not be reasonable to expect them to know what to put in their post. it is fairly reasonable to expect them to do a search first and read (although whether one can get a better idea after search is another issue). it is of no point to tell others that "it is discussed to death" or "go and do a search yourself"
some of them got what they want and never return to contribute, while some may not even bother to reply, as it doesn't take much effort to dump an open net and hopes it catches something. they may just come in again for B&S.
but whatever the case, in order to provide self help guides and to make it easier for others to help newbies, i hope the moderators are interested in this issue and see if it can be systematically resolved or at least improved.
1. decide on where such questions/requests should go to
- newbie subforum?
- equipment subforum?
- consumer subforum?
- does brand specific questions between canon model A and model B goes to equipment or canon subforum?
2. post sticky annoucement where such questions/requests are likely to appear
3. set up a thread where in different situations, what a newbie are advised to offer before they ask for what they want.
examples are mentioned in my reply in this thread

but i'm sure if brains put together can get a better brainstorm results.
