:D

I dunno, but I always see postings about how cheap F80S are in Hong Kong.

Nah, don't bother with the S version. Get the F80 and be happy with it.

Agreed, save the $$$.

To be perfectly honest, this exposure information thing is one of those illusory things. Like many other things (USM, multiple exposure, IS spring to mind and there are many others) that look or sound good, but in truth aren't all that useful.

Mudpool, regarding the prices in HK I think it's really not much difference. On the average, you can get the F80S there for what you would pay for the F80 here. I just got a body there last month. I saved SGD$200 on it alone, but when I add the cost of going over there.... :p

I think I'll prefer the S version if I am the one getting a F80. Cause as an amertuer I think the settings feature is very helpful.
Probably not so for the Pros though. I had the chance to handle my friend's F100 and F5 and boy, they DO FEEL SOLID!!!

Agree that it's a huge jump from F80 to F100...that's why I'm still sticking to my trustworthy F90X... :D

But IMHO, I would save up to get the F100 instead of spending on the F80 series...

F100 feels much much more solid than the F80 series...

But then again, if you are thinking of getting G lenses in future, then F90X is definitely out...

IMHO, if you are just using it as your hobby, the F80S would be a good choice. the F100 would be more towards the professionals and working class (and the rich or spendthift).

Haiz I still thinking of F5...

hmm...after hearing so much...feel tt F80 is the way to go...F100 is way to expensive for me...
the DSLR keeps coming into my mind

argh!!!

the pain!!

Guys guys guys, do you not read what Jed says?

When we grow up, we tend to have our opinions and stopped making the effort to understand advices, even of those who are wise.

Just like that time, when I bought my F65, a guy with a funny hairdo advised me to buy the F80 instead. I didn't listen and now I feel so sorry for myself. I mean F65 is still a great cam, but F80 is still a better choice.

Hmmm..
I don't know about you guys, but I do look at my exposure recordings - every one of them, when I get back my shots.

To me as a total amateur, who doesn't have the slightest idea as to what shutter speeds to use to prevent hand shake, DOF, and stuff, it's quite a good tool for me. Like for me, I realised that my virgin shots were blurred because of my slow shutter speeds... mainly. :)

But if you have a good memory (which I obviously don't have), and you can roughly gauge as to what settings you used, then you don't need the S version.

Yup, S$200 ain't a small sum.

I think it's better to look at the F80 series for a start.
F100 is way way too expensive. (at least for me..)
I seriously don't really need the pro-build of the F100 - I ain't going to the Amazon for shoots...

But I would really love it if the F80 had the CAM1300 AF module...
, but if it (F80) really had it, the differences between the F80 and F100 won't warrant a whopping $1k right?

just my 0.0000000002 cents.

It all comes down back to experience, after a while, you'll know what and where you screwed up. :)

cause for me the reason for upgrading frm my current OM-1N....is the problem it's fully manual....though manual helps u to sort of train urself instead of depending on the automatic function..
but den sometimes u when u are busy checking the exposure meter....and the subjects or the critical moment just disappers....never coming back again....tt's y i looking for something automatic at the same time with manual function....

don't worry, you'll be able to get sharp technically perfect shots long before you get shots worth keeping, whether or not you look at exposure recordings. I'm speaking from experience :)

True!
Damn, I'm so screwed with my shots...
Could even take a shot with a person's head (at the bottom of the frame) partially chopped off without even knowing it... until I got my shots back.

For manual cameras, NEVER try to set and reset the exposure meter all the time. As long as you are in the same place, and the light never change, take ONE reading and stick to that.
